Guy posting as Maze's uncle on Go Vols extra is saying in multiple posts that without Tyler on the team, Maze will shine as point guard. The game is not about Tyler but focus on team. They really played smart defense throughout the game. Very few breakdowns which is big improvement over last year.

the ymca 2-3 was a good move. there was plenty of time left when he went to it... 11 minutes left i think. unless we are on fire from 3... we generally look more awful than usual in the halfcourt against a zone... surely you haven't forgotten the memphis game.
Allowing Tennessee to hold the ball and minimize the number of possessions they had to play without Chism was an utterly awful move. Period.

4. He (and the other end-of-the-bench guys) deserve more credit for providing many minutes of tough D (and even a few key treys) at a time when Kansas could've gone on a huge run.
8. Most unlikely outcome of a UT game I've ever seen (moreso than the Stoerner fumble)
10. Our effort and poise on D had something to do with that.
Morningstar and Reed missed wide open shots. The defense didn't have much to do with it.

I'm really happy for this guy. Without him we lose tonight. Thanks for the break-down. I find it funny after such a great win we have people having threads about Pearl-Haters...besides the kids won the game did they not?

At the beginning of the season, it just seemed like he was totally lost. I had begun to wonder if he would ever reach his excellent potential.

The chemistry is definitely there now. If Pearl brings the other three back, I hope he lets them earn their way back onto the court. I have not been to the practices, but it appears that some players may have been some playing time based on reputation rather than current results.

I have leaned toward not letting them come back (as if it is my choice that matters), but it would certainly help with depth, which almost killed us tonight.

Why did Bill Self never try the "sagging" man to man defense that has troubled us previously? Perhaps he did and I just didn't notice.

Like him or not, Hate gives CBP credit when due. I respect that.

But, if you'll notice #9 leaves Hat a great oppurtunity to come back and blast CBP for not at least starting the season at 7-1 in conference. When in all actuality, with losing our leading scorer for the season and playing with only 6 scholarship players for the time being, 7-1 to start the SEC season would probably be a bigger miracle than beating Kansas. If we don't get some bodies back, the wear and tear will get to us. Georgia almost wins at Kentucky, Ole Miss is 12-3 and ranked 14th, Bama is 11-4 with close losses to Cornell and Purdue, Vandy is 12-3 with some good wins under their belt, and Florida is Florida. Hat knows we'll be VERY lucky to be 8-0 or 7-1 out of the gate. He's setting CBP up to fail. Not buying it.

The SEC is still not very good.

Irrelevant. The game is not decided on some basket right before the first half ends. If you sit him all that time because you believe he is too valuable to get a 3rd foul, then it is idiotic to put him in for 60 seconds. Those 60 seconds were not going to win you the game.

Memphis last year begs to differ.

8. That'll rank with the upset of Florida Pearl's first year on my list of great TBA moments. It still wasn't as much fun as the Corey Allen "How The Hell Did That Happen" win over Kentucky.
YouTube - Tennessee Vols 4-point possession to beat Kentucky - Feb. 24, 1993

Classic - one of greatest games I remember watching.

True, but I think most of us would take 7-1/6-2 out of the gate.

I most definitely would.

Was just responding to the guy who said that was a trap to use against Pearl at a later date.

I get going to the zone press and falling back into a zone to try to shake things up. I don't get staying in it more than about 2 posessions after it is clear that it isn't working as intended.

And Maze was the better PG out there today.

Maze played the best game I have seen him play. Collins was the better point. There is no disgrace in that.

7. Nothing says bigtime college basketball like a bunch of kids from 4 hours away jumping rope at halftime. For the love of God, just scrap the "entertainment" completely.

I thought maybe the "Firecrackers" were the secret ingredient that turned a halftime tie into a Volunteer win. It has to distract an opposing coach to see an adolescent girl jumping rope with her butt.

All said, that was a terrific win. I don't know if they are the best team in the country or not, but that is a Kansas team with legit stars at point, center and wing. For UT to beat them, leading almost the entire way, down 4 of their top eight guys, playing 3 walk-ons extensively, and with 2 starters limited due to foul trouble is damn near miraculous. Hat's off to players and coaches :hi:

That's the kind of thing that makes me want to drive the 4 hours to TBA on a more regular basis.

Collins is better overall, but my point was that Maze outplayed him on Sunday. Maze had more assists and rebounds, fewer turnovers, and 16 points on 10 fewer field goal attempts. Although I will admit that it is easier to get assists when they guys you are passing it to are knocking down shots.

Yep. People I think overestimate Hat's feelings against Pearl. It's obvious that Hat does not respect CBP personally or as a head coach, but it's my feeling that he would gladly take UT winning big with or without CBP at the helm.

And that's the same stance I have. I would love nothing more than this team to finally get over the hump and make it farther than before.

But whether we do or not, it will not change my feelings towards Bruce. As much as I despise the guy, he currently is the Head Coach of the school that I send a check to each year. I want him to win while he is here, but the sooner he is gone the better. A win over Kansas or a loss to USC does not make it any better or worse.

Wrong Hatvol, those girls were fantastic; it was a great halftime show! Maybe you would have liked to have seen the duck and gorilla show.

I still don't think Bruce is a great X's and O's coach. But, sadly, if he leaves us, we're screwed. He has brought a lot to this program. I still say Hat is trying to trap him with his "at least 7-1 SEC start". And yes, you are correct, the SEC isn't that great. But, for a team with 6 scholarship players at the moment, to start 8-0 or 7-1 against some decent teams would be bigger than the Kansas win in my eyes. You can "get up" and play the game of your life once, but to do it every night is tough. To be honest, unless we get some guys back, I'd take 5-3 to start. C'mon guys, we give Kiffin EVERY benefit of doubt, let's give Bruce a little slack too.

Look, he's not hating on CBP! WOW!

6. Bill Self's decision to play a YMCA 2-3 and let Tennessee shorten the game was utterly baffling. It allowed UT to minimize the effects of their foul trouble.

He does overlook our dribble penetration as the cause for this^^. I'm sure if KU had a coach like Hat they'd win them all.
BTW, who hates on the halftime kids? It's a college game, old man.

wasting your breath. ubtil CBP renounces Judaism and runs a clock-killing O with lots of back to the basket post moves, these guys won't be happy.

If you think that his religion has ANYTHING to do with peoples feelings towards Pearl and his position at UT you are either insecure or stupid.
I would say based on your litany of laughable posts on this board that it's a combination of the two.

The halftime show was entertaining for about .5 seconds.
