I am just curious if any of the folks here on the bball home remember the Wade Houstoun, Kevin ONeil, Jerry Green, Buzz Peterson years? I would not ever want to go back to that brand of basketball again. I just wish we would play hard every night for a full game.

Yes we do.

Though there was some kind of perverse pleasure watching Jay Price and Gannon Goodsen battle it out before 3,500 people against Austin Peay on a Tuesday night in December.

I remember Lang Wiseman drilling a shot to beat the Soviets in an exhibition. Sabonis was on the bench with an injury. Those were not the good ol' days.

I think that was Travis Henry, not Lang Wiseman... but I could be mistaken.

What are you talking about? Tennessee didn't play its first men's basketball game until after Bruce Pearl was hired, right?

It was my understanding that Pearl financed TBA with his own money and built it with his bare hands.

That is my fondest memory of Henry's career. In fact, it may be my only memory.
My fondest memory of Travis Henry as a player was seeing Rob Jones dunk on his head in the A-E-Karns game at the Civic Coliseum.

I appreciate the irony.

It is funny some of my favorite Vol hoops moments prior to the last few years though. In no particular order:

1. Carlos Groves and Stanley Caldwell trying to dog stomp Shaq and Dale Brown.
2. The crazy Corey Allen tip-in.
3. Going to games just to see what Allan Houston would do.
4. The C.J. Black tip-in which was one piece of the only UK sweep I ever witnessed.
5. Having the biggest blow out party in the world for the tourney game against those Delaware Blue Hens.
6. Going to games just to see what Jay Price would do. (Though it was not in an Allan Houston-esque way).

Necessity.

It's not like we haven't needed it before now. I'm just wondering what light switch has been turned on vs. last year. The defense is there almost every night this year which hasn't been seen in a while.

Where was Doug Roth? :)

Wow, Rob Jones, Travis Henry, Doug Roth. I'm reminded that DeVoe sure took a lot of local kids.

There's a difference between needing it and it being essential to your team's survival.

hey I fondly wonder a couple things. What happened to the jerri curl. i loved Dyron Nix for rocking it. Also how could wade Houston not do anything with not just 1 NBA players on his roster but 2. Ed Gray played in the NBA too not just Allan

It could be. I was about 11 at the time, so I just remember it being a white dude on the other side of the court. The late 80s gets me a little hazy sometimes.

its cool all us white guys look alike in the black mans game. the token guy to come in and shoot free throws and threes.

Wade Houston was the worst coach I have ever seen in any sport at any level. That includes my time in Little League and my sons 5 year old soccer league, which consists of a middle age woman coaching kids to kick the ball towards the goal and nothing else. At least the kids can hear her and listen from time to time.

Ed Gray and Allan Houston didn't play together.

I remember Corey Allen being a master of the tip-in. As I recall that was about all he could bring to a game, but he was good at it.

The first Tennessee game I ever watched was a shoot out between Allan Houston and Chris Jackson ('88 or '89). I have been watching ever since. Those two guys on the same court, matching three's, was great.
