The Section 103 Postgame Report.

I was at that game. It was unbelievable. They had the upper decks blocked off. They just sold general admission tickets to the game. I would even venture to say that 2,000 people would be a generous estimate. It was certainly an embarrassing way for Ron Slay to go out.

I also remember that game. It was beyond a disaster.

Disaster? I watched Tennessee lose a home game to Western Carolina where Frankie King lit us up for I don't know how many points. I mean, it wasn't even close, like a 15-20 point loss.

Actually, anybody who went to a game in 93-94 should've received free therapy as compensation.

Before my time.

I get the feeling that Buzz has this odd cause-and-effect logic: if Higgins hadn't have been ruled ineligible, we would've beat Auburn, gotten into the Dance (and promptly waxed in the first round), and that would have given him enough capital to still be coaching here. Hopefully that was a comforting thought when he went home after losing to King College.
The cause-and-effect was far simpler than that for Peterson. The cause=He sucked. The effect=He got fired. Everyone who supported him being given another year should permanently be considered enemies of the men's basketball program.

1. Solid win against a bad opponent. Posted via VolNation Mobile

ok, but I feel this doesn't tell the whole story. This is the same bad team that managed to knock off Kentucky. To me, that raises them above the level of bad to the level of potentially dangerous. For Tennessee to come out and dominate a newly very confident SEC team this way speaks good things. This was not simply a low-quality win over a bad opponent.

Otherwise, nicely written as always.

I don't know how that team beat Kentucky, but unless Downey goes insane on us in Carolina i see Tennessee sweeping them again this year.

It was comparable to Green's last team starting the season 16-2 I believe before getting beat by Charlotte in the first round of the NCAA tourney.

Talk about an unenthused team.

I remember that season, too. We started 16-1 and totally bombed down to the 8/9 game and lost in it. That was horrible.

Necessity.

Exactly. There is no way it has anything to do with the staff coaching the team up so that they play better defense. Its all because the players realized if they don't play better defense they won't win games.

The coaching staff never saw the need to focus harder on defense.

This coaching staff wouldn't even know how to coach up a defense if it wanted to.

Come on hat, at least give a little credit when its due. The team has improved a great deal on defense over the last month, and a lot that has to do with the coaching staff better preparing the players. Rebounding has been outstanding of late.

nice postgame report btw, as usual.

Does that mean the staff learned how to coach halfcourt defense over the summer? They certainly hadn't done it in the four previous seasons. I guess Pearl picked it up at the Macarena Games.

would renaldo woolridge be more comfortable at the 3 because it seems like he could use his combination of athleticism and size better as a 3... just a thought from someone who doesnt really know alot

His ballhandling would be a huge liability on the wing.

I agree. But I think that they have certainly made it a priority this year. Their ball screen defense is leaps and bounds better than last year. However, the half-court offense still leaves a lot to be desired.
