The shut down thread

Don't really care, a good portion of this country are morons so when CNN/MSNBC/CBS/ABC/NBC etc tell them it's Trump fault, they are too dumb to know it's on Schumer because the media never tell you all that

The senate and house have both approved a budget. They were both on board with it. Didn't go before Trump because he would have vetoed it. This is all on Trump and now McConnell. If McConnell could ever admit that Trump has no clothes, they would easily have the votes to override his veto. But they're not going to do that because that would sink Trump in 2020.

I have had to educate you ignorant libs too much on this already, I don't have the energy to continue. Just go back and see if the House passed a budget late December that the President would have signed

There's no question that both Trump and the Dems have chosen this hill to make their last stands instead of working together on comprehensive immigration reform.

Vote them all out in 2020.

Poll: Shutdown, Russia drive Trump to all-time high disapproval

Pretty telling:

"While 43 percent support the construction of a border wall — compared to 49 percent who oppose construction — only 7 percent of voters said that they support dedicating funding to a border wall if it was the only way to end the government shutdown.

That’s compared to 72 percent who oppose dedicating funding to a border wall if it was the only way.

When asked whether they will approve of dedicating funds to border security, but not a wall, to end the shutdown, 34 percent supported. Fifty-one percent, however, still opposed that plan."

Seems like people don't want to give in to a hostage taker

Maybe this has been discussed, but could people get behind allocating X billion dollars to border security, with spending being determined by what a blue ribbon, expert committee recommends. Don't know if that's permissible, but then we'd at least be letting experts--instead of partisan politicians--decide how to spend the border security money that's been allocated and neither party would be a winner or loser.

doubt you could ever get anyone to agree on who is in that committee.

I wouldn't even know where to start.

if you pick politicians you get these same issues.
If you drop in people with experience or those actively working of course they are going to increase their budget.
can't really open it up to just anyone.
I don't know of any scholars who focus on this type of stuff.
Lawyers? lol.
