The shut down thread

One rather significant irony I have not seen mentioned is that Trump has frequently railed against the Congress and prior administrations for temporary fixes that did not represent comprehensive immigration reform.

So he has offered a temporary fix of his own.

I have to agree with you here.

Reagan fired the Air Traffic Controllers. TSA can be fired as well, and far more easily replaced.

Who’s going to take a job where they aren’t getting paid? Couple that with the training time and our airports would be closed for awhile.

This shut down would have been over in 48 hours if all of the airports were shut down because of no TSA agents working.
I am just wondering if they would actually shut down. or does screening just go away or get shifted to someone else? I would think the companies would be willing to pay for whatever screening is happening. they would lose less than if they were completely shut down.

For the government shutdown?
Yep, Imagine if Rush would have told him to shutdown the government for "space force".

Of all the worthy issues that need to be addressed, the right wing is choosing this hill to die on. It's not even about border security, it's about a "wall".

Fundamentally, this shutdown is about owning the libs. Nothing is more polarizing than the wall. The wall, effectively, would be the centerpiece in the Republicans' overarching social policy of owning the libs.

Nothing about it snuck up on anyone. He ran on it from 2015.

Yes, that's my point. This is the Superbowl for Trump. Nothing emodied his xenophobia and racism like the image of a 30 foot concrete wall to keep the brown skinned Spanish speakers out. This isn't about security and drugs, this is about a victory over the libs.

He’s been beating them for 2 years. And it will continue.

Funny how 4 years ago Europe was open arms and now starting their own walls.

Racism has nothing to do with it. It's safety for this country and making everyone do it legally and fair to all who is in line.

So you acknowledge that this is about a victory and owning the libs, as opposed to security? (Psst, most experts say border security money would be better spent on other security mechanisms, not the wall). It's certainly not about what Americans want. Nearly 3/4 of the population now doesn't want the wall. The only rationale that remains standing is that this is Trump's vanity project that will cement him as the king of owning the libs.

Losing the argument? Since you're tossing in the "well, but racist!" argument means you're getting close to not having an argument.

I acknowledge that Trump kicked libs in the balls 2 years ago. And that kicking put 2 judges on the SC. Lowered taxes putting more money in our pockets. Created more jobs. Lowered unemployment rate. Fostered a favorable business environment allowing businesses to expand. Kicked ISIS in the balls. So yes he will continue because he’s kicking a group of people that are quite simply bad for this country. Meaning their policies and positions suck donkey 🥜

With the creation of the TSA I think airports and teh airlines lost the ability to hire private screeners.

You are correct. TSA went from a private entity to a public one with the stroke of a pen. There is no going back.

Thank you, President Bush, for your big government brand of "compassionate conservatism". Idiot.

Is Rush communicating with Trump privately or doing his usual routine on the airwaves?

Very few worthy issues need to be addressed in DC. Their solution is always spend money we don't have and consolidate power to the ruling elites.

I guess my thinking would then be to have the airlines pick up the slack in the mean time with the fed reimbursing them once we are all done peacocking.

You do realize very few people want this exchange. If anything, she has the workers behind her, not vice versa.
Don't really care, a good portion of this country are morons so when CNN/MSNBC/CBS/ABC/NBC etc tell them it's Trump fault, they are too dumb to know it's on Schumer because the media never tell you all that
