The shut down thread

McConnell has had a spine once in his life other than that he is a weak kneed jellyfish
You are probably talking about the refusal to allow a vote on Merrick Garland? That is the biggest reason I consider him a douche bag. So, neither one of us like him... but for completely different reasons.

Because they are not in lockstep with the right wing?
So you brag about not being in lockstep but despise everybody in your party who is not in lockstep?
Sound logic there justin.
I am not in lockstep with the blue blood Rs. I am a conservative. Screw RINOs and screw weak kneed Rs, They are only slightly better than your party

Okay....As long or you remain consistent in your inconsistency and illogical in your logic.

Liberal/socialist/communist thugs always march in lockstep; it makes it extremely difficult to defeat their totalitarianism when the other side actually attempts to be moderate and look outside a party line. After obama any thought of appeasement from the GOP side is treasonous.

Nobody knows what he means. Including him.

It will make sense when he declares the emergency; allocates the money to build the wall; and then let's the Dems "win" by signing their proposal. And still getting his wall.

Pelosi and Schumer are the arrogant teenagers playing chess with a Master. They might know politics, and Trump is definitely swimming against the current of sewage in D.C., but he has left footprints on the backs of many far better than the opponents he currently faces, including those inside his own party. They never really liked him to start with, except for Pence.

Personally, I think someone should throw his phone in the Potomac, but I wouldn't bet against him once he draws the hard line.

Which he has.

I'm wrong a lot. Maybe this is just the next example. Or maybe I read his book. I'm a student of Patton, by the way.

IMO, a wall is as misguided as the Maginot line was. The French were convinced they had solved their problem with Germany. All it did was spur Hitler to find another way.

That said, I think both political parties are acting irrational over the wall debate and the govt shutdown. Our country is in need of serious immigration reform. We do need to find a way to better secure our borders. It's a problem that won't be solved by petty bickering, which seems to be the only thing Dems and GOPers are good at.
My man. And the idiocy rolls on. Why people support entrenched political bickering is mind numbingly irrational. We should all be telling our elected officials to get their collective heads out of their asses.

30 Democrats Ask Pelosi For Vote On Wall In Sign Trump’s Strategy Is Working

Thirty Democrats sent a letter Wednesday to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, suggesting she guarantee President Donald Trump a vote on his border security funding request if he reopens the government.

Led by freshmen Rep. Elaine Luria of Virginia, the letter lays out a process that would guarantee a House vote — but not passage — on the $5.7 billion Trump has requested in border wall funding, as well as other funding he is seeking for border security needs.

The letter is not designed to signal support for the president’s funding request. Rather it is intended to lay out a process for the House to truly debate the proposal — with opportunities for Democratic amendments — in hopes that would be enough of a commitment for Trump to agree to reopen the government.

“Effective governing should not result in winners and losers,” Luria said in a statement after releasing the letter. “Our job is to do the most good for the most people. We feel this proposal would gain support across the aisle, allow a transparent process, and encourage much-needed reforms to our immigration system.”

“We promised our constituents that we would seek bipartisan solutions, and we feel that this proposal would gain bipartisan support and allow a transparent process to evaluate the true needs of border security and provide much needed reform to our immigration system,” the Democrats said.

These 30 signed the letter:

Jennifer Wexton, Va.

This just means pelosi will cheat again and block honest debate and passage. Have to give this new Dem credit, though; but I wonder how long it will take before she learns the rules according to pelosi and becomes another of the DC criminals. Honest debate and a fair vote on anything pelosi is against is simply the same as "give them a fair trial, and then hang them" ... the result is in before the debate and vote even begin.

I'm not sure how that is a sign that Trump's strategy is working. Those signatures don't guarantee passage of anything (as is acknowledged in the text), and to even get to a vote, the government will have to be reopened first, which is not a part of Trump's strategy - at least, not yet.

Have to agree with you; Trump isn't showing much as a strategic thinker. He's making it look petty rather than showing pelosi and schumer as simple obstructionists. Trump's biggest problem is Trump, his fat mouth, and his disconnected brain; he constantly undercuts himself by speaking without thinking. His other major problem is that a lot of the GOP in congress dislike him as much as the Dims.
