The shut down thread

BS. Nobody in congress has ever written a bill that does just one thing.
All that was in it.

This bill provides continuing appropriations to the U.S. Coast Guard for any period during which interim or full-year appropriations for the Coast Guard are not in effect.

The appropriations are provided to the Coast Guard for

pay and allowances for members of the Coast Guard, civilian employees, and contractors;
the payment of a death gratuity, funeral travel, and the temporary continuation of the basic allowance for housing for dependents of members of the Coast Guard dying on active duty; and
retired pay.
The appropriations are provided until the enactment of specified Coast Guard appropriations legislation.

So evidently Trump thinks grocery stores will "work along" with you, by which I think he means they'll give you food on credit to be repaid when the shutdown is over.
He thinks the grocery stores know the people that come in to buy groceries because they have to show their ID.

Well he offered Daca or atleast talking about it. Doesn't look good for the ones that wanted it. This will pull Nancy and Chuck in to the whirlwind of not even discussing it.

Thousands of Central American migrants are camped out in Tijuana, Mexico, the town that borders San Diego, California.

Tijuana officials have expressed their anger and frustration over the financial strain these migrants are putting on the local community.

A large percentage of the Central American migrants have diseases such as AIDS, tuberculosis and hepatitis.

Even worse, there are Middle Easterners, Bangladeshi’s and dangerous MS-13 gang members embedded in the caravans seeking asylum.

There is a huge humanitarian crisis at the border and Obama’s dangerous ‘catch and release’ policy became a magnet for asylum seekers.

That would have to be a first, and I'd bet it didn't state it simply in one page. The other issue is how much junk would have been attached by the time it got through. If congress did one thing per piece of legislation we wouldn't have to have periodic agreements to keep spending money that isn't in the coffers because a lot of bad stuff would never have made it through. Congress is the problem; they keep spending more money that we don't have. Which really gets us to the root of the problem, Trump didn't exactly shut things down; he didn't agree to continued deficit spending, and the deficit spending is primarily on congress. Too bad it's not congress being held fully accountable for being in overwhelming debt.

Methinks they are starting to whisper that the emperor may not have any clothes on.

Murkowski appears to be perpetually confused - like most of congress, so no surprise there. She generally doesn't have a clue which party she belongs to.

There's no telling how much pork would be added on by the end. But if they truly just put what the bill says there wasn't anything in it beaides what I pasted.

Billionaires giving advice to the average American on how to cope with being forced to go without being paid for a month is hilarious.... For God's sake, just shut up.

This I agree with you on . It’s like taking advise from Bill Gates on what grocery store has the best 80/20 ground beef .

The concept of working paycheck to paycheck means that you can't afford to miss two in a row and then still pay your mortgage/rent when it's due while also buying groceries. These people are poor anyway. They are swallowing their pride and trying to save money where they can... most likely because they are putting their financial obligations first - which is the responsible thing to do.

As for this last line? Does it matter that you have a job, if you aren't being paid?

Speak of your own daughter, not mine.

Is that what Trump was talking about? He didn't mention anything about using previously established credit in that "advice" he was giving. Of course, the people who have available credit are going to max it out at a time like this... but then what?

STFU

Amazingly concise; as it stands, it should be a no brainer; but the chances of it stay that way are pretty much nil. I don't really understand why the CG is treated differently from the rest of the military anyway; I'm assuming that for appearance sake, it is preferable that the CG seems more like police than military ... probably something that happens when you don't actually see borders as a national security issue. It's a complete travesty that the CG isn't being paid.

After a month of his chessmaster wizardry, Trump managed to peel off Manchin. Impressive.
