All that was in it.BS. Nobody in congress has ever written a bill that does just one thing.
One GOP senator said lawmakers told Pence "the shutdown needs to come to an end, this is not a strategy that works [and] we never should have had a shutdown in the first place."
All that was in it.
This bill provides continuing appropriations to the U.S. Coast Guard for any period during which interim or full-year appropriations for the Coast Guard are not in effect.
The appropriations are provided to the Coast Guard for
pay and allowances for members of the Coast Guard, civilian employees, and contractors;
the payment of a death gratuity, funeral travel, and the temporary continuation of the basic allowance for housing for dependents of members of the Coast Guard dying on active duty; and
retired pay.
The appropriations are provided until the enactment of specified Coast Guard appropriations legislation.
There's no telling how much pork would be added on by the end. But if they truly just put what the bill says there wasn't anything in it beaides what I pasted.That would have to be a first, and I'd bet it didn't state it simply in one page. The other issue is how much junk would have been attached by the time it got through. If congress did one thing per piece of legislation we wouldn't have to have periodic agreements to keep spending money that isn't in the coffers because a lot of bad stuff would never have made it through. Congress is the problem; they keep spending more money that we don't have. Which really gets us to the root of the problem, Trump didn't exactly shut things down; he didn't agree to continued deficit spending, and the deficit spending is primarily on congress. Too bad it's not congress being held fully accountable for being in overwhelming debt.
The concept of working paycheck to paycheck means that you can't afford to miss two in a row and then still pay your mortgage/rent when it's due while also buying groceries. These people are poor anyway. They are swallowing their pride and trying to save money where they can... most likely because they are putting their financial obligations first - which is the responsible thing to do.
As for this last line? Does it matter that you have a job, if you aren't being paid?
