Trump in 2013: "The president ultimately gets the blame for a shutdown"

Donald Trump, speaking with Fox News back in 2013 as Washington headed for a shutdown under President Obama, said that in the president ultimately gets the blame.

"The president, in all fairness, he's the leader, he's the one that has to get everybody in the room and get it done," then-businessman Trump said. "So he does have a lot of pressure to get this problem solved. He's got a big problem."

Truth. It involves 'everyone' ,not just Mr. Trump

And with that your ignorance is exposed - this sht isn't a republican or democrat problem it's a leadership problem.

A clean DACA bill was requested and rejected, instead it's being used as leverage for a $18bd fence. Please stop feigning that only one side isn't fiscally conservative. Both sides are equally shtty and complicit.

So I'm ignorant? Please don't tarnish your intelligence with piss-ant innuendos like that.

With that said, agreed, both sides can be idiots...everybody's got their own belief system, while at the same time, everybody's gotta feel like they have a seat at the table...it's a vicious cycle, is what it is I reckon.

Now, the $18B wall/border enhancements...that's peanuts!

The border wall ALONE could save taxpayers 5X it's cost over 10 years, conservatively...not to mention the other benefits such as entries by terrorists, other unlawful aliens, instruments of terrorism, narcotics, and other contraband.

Boom: Wall would save taxpayers $64 billion in freebies for illegals

Me personally, I think it's a small ticket price to pay, 18B to mitigate transnational criminal organizations that operate sophisticated drug- and human-trafficking networks and smuggling operations on both sides of the southern border, contributing to a significant increase in violent crime and United States deaths from dangerous drugs. Among those who illegally enter are those who seek to harm Americans through acts of terror or criminal conduct. And, it's no secret, "continued" illegal immigration presents an enhanced clear and present danger to the interests of the United States.

That is because the people have been led to believe that they are all 7 year old children.

Kinda like those poor women and children refugees, when every picture and video turned out to be grown men. That’s The lefts Problem, they are convinced the American people are too stupid to catch on.

Cool, we agree the President is largely to blame if there's a shutdown.

Next, 90% of Americans support DACA, which is what the Democrats want.

So, we're gonna shut down the government because Trump and company ignore the 90%. Nice work, Dotard.

Poll: Nearly 9 in 10 want DACA recipients to stay in US | TheHill

mhm, I always like reading these articles. They often prove to be quite clickbaity.

It doesn't state that 90% of Americans are for DACA (the program). It says
According to the survey, almost 9 in 10 respondents — 87 percent — said they believe that the so-called Dreamers should be allowed to remain in the U.S. if they meet certain requirements, such as working or going to school.
so those that are here can stay, but new ones?
also its not a blanket statement, there is a qualification to it. Job or school.

Yes, a shutdown is Trumps fault but the Dems are not compromising on DACA. The two should not be intertwined.

In theory, you're right. Unfortunately, in practice, Trump stuck a time bomb on DACA... March 5 — the day the Trump administration said expiring DACA permits would no longer be renewable, which has been treated by Congress as the “deadline” for a DACA fix.

Time is running out to fix DACA.

90% of Americans - including Trump - support DACA.

Trump wants to parlay a DACA deal into him getting billions for his stupid wall- that he promised Mexico would pay for.

This would mark the 4th continuing resolution... which is just poor legislating.

So, there's your intertwining. Guess who's right in the middle gumming it all up... Mr. Art of the Deal.

I wonder if Trump will cut a deal with Schumer and **** the Republican right wingers. Wouldn't surprise me.

Still promoting that falsehood I see.

I don't want a shutdown but the blowback will be hardest on the Dems, we already see the memes about them caring for illegals before the care about citizens. Just imagine the commercials during the midterms.

Way back machine proves we've done this before.

Spring 2011 Continuing Resolutions
March 1 – April 15, 2011

Between March 1 and April 15, Congress approves four continuing resolutions, the last funding the government through September 2011 and approved just hours before a partial government shutdown would have begun.

Yes, a shutdown is Trumps fault but the Dems are not compromising on DACA. The two should not be intertwined.

It could be argued Trump has caused his own headache here.

Had he took the time to study the issue a bit, he could go back to why Obama had to do DACA via Executive Order. He couldn't get the legislative branch to do anything on the issue.

So, Trump decided to do away with the program without a solution to what would happen next and he was relying on the same groups of people that couldn't figure it out 5 years ago or however long it's been.

I know folks will take exception to this but, I have a hard time understanding why you'd just simply say, I'm ending this so I can look tough on immigration and you guys need to deal with the fall out without any plan at all.
