I don't have a problem with increased border protection at all. That will not address the bigger problem of people coming here legally on work visas and disappearing after the visa has expired.
It (border security) also has nothing to do with the DACA recipients who are already here, they didn't come here illegally, their parents did. Many of them would have met many of the requirements for citizenship except there is no law on the books that allows them to pursue citizenship, for the most part.
Obviously, the whole immigration system needs an overhaul because it simply isn't working, really, for anyone. Certainly the situation with regard to Mr. Garcia is a bad look, putting it mildly.
He should have left after he married a US citizen then went through the process to come back legally. He'd already be a citizen by now if he had.
Boom! Personal responsibility.
Left and gone where? He came here when he was 10. He spent the next 30 years here, never got in trouble, has two kids, a wife and a job.
In fact, as it relates to DACA, he "came out of the shadows" as they say and put himself into the system because he thought it was the right thing to do. Had he not done that he'd probably still be here.
Back to Mexico, then applied for a green card for a person married to a US citizen. I'm not exactly sure how it works but if he really wanted to stay he could have figured it out a long time ago.
I can't, I'm going to do what I need to do to stay with my family. He knew the risk he was taking by NOT planning ahead.
To qualify to apply for U.S. citizenship via naturalization, you should meet following requirements:
*You are 18 years old and above at the time of application
*A lawful green card holder (permanent resident) for five years
*Have established continuous residency for 5 years and are physically present in the U.S.
*Possess good moral character
*Have basic knowledge of the English language
*Have basic knowledge of U.S. history and government
*Show willingness to take the Oath of Allegiance
A plurality of Americans say they would blame Democrats if the government shuts down, according to a new poll.
Thirty-one percent of Americans would blame Democrats in Congress, while 26 percent said they would blame congressional Republicans, a CNN poll showed Friday.
Meanwhile, only 21 percent of Americans would hold President Trump responsible, and 10 percent would cast blame on all three.
Assuming that simply going to grade school takes care of the last three...Couldn't his case worker/immigration officer have a tool to get the guy a green card?
I totally understand where you are coming from as far as the principle goes, but...we'll have to agree to disagree I reckon. Appreciate the debate 88. :hi:

The Democrats are pushing for this shutdown because they are hellbent on getting AMNESTY for a significant population of ILLEGAL ALIENS who were recipients of the unlawful Barack Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) executive amnesty program. The White House and congressional Republicans have been more than willing to offer a deal and proposal to handle this problem, but the Democrats have been unwilling to give up chain migration, the visa lottery, and funding for President Trumps planned border wall.
