The Supreme Court of the United States Thread

Here is my summary of the existing criminal cases against Trump.

So there are 3 buckets for Presidential acts, core functions (full immunity), official acts (presumptive immunity), and unofficial private acts (no immunity). Below are the four criminal cases pending. Presumptive immunity gives the government the burden to prove there is no Presidential immunity.

Jack Smith electors- official act, presumptive immunity
Documents case- core function, complete immunity- Trump can declassify documents.
Stormy Daniels- official act (maybe)- presumptive immunity
Fani Willis case- official act- presumptive immunity.

By the way, the Supreme Court destroyed part of the Jack Smith case last week, when it threw out half of Trump's indictments- the conspiracy based counts, because of a bogus legal theory.

This country does not like prosecutions for political purposes.

its generally a lot easier to hold the territory when the population of natives has been reduced dramatically. in some places, not Mexico, the spanish only ruled over a population that was 10% what it was before their arrival.

accepting the "good ole days" involves a whole lot forgotten details.

the same spanish squandered all those riches and power in less than 200 years btw.

Spain held it mostly due to native allies that could not stand Aztec human sacrificing but that is another story. Not sure there is any accuracy on the 10%. Small Pox wiped out a lot of people but not that many.

We can't even win in Afghanistan, Iraq, or Vietnam. Sad. Heck France conquered Vietnam in 1880 with no problem. Then they and the USA can't hold them in the 1950s/1960s. What changed?

and my point is that is not a good thing that it is getting held up in the SC.

Why? What do you think will change? Plus, no other POTUS has ever been charged with a crime for this to make it's way to the Supreme Court so you can again thank the Dems for setting precedent.

At least they had the chance.

It's an embarrassing, terrifying reflection on conservatives today that they would vote for the gangster again in the primaries.

It's also a window on how utterly pathetic the GOP is these days that the great hope for beating the gangster was Ron DeSantis, who proved
to be even more unpopular than a convicted felon and treasonous conman.

Our will.

So the second impeachment and J6 committees were framed as investigating/punishing actions taken by Trump as POTUS - do they inadvertently add to the argument they are immune under the SCOTUS ruling?

Just wondering aloud if actions by the Dems will help the Trump defense if the thing ever goes to trial

Couldn't it be argued that the Jan 6th impeachment trial makes his Jan 6th criminal trial double jeopardy?

Ok… but they at least had a choice.

You may find the cause more noble, but it’s the height of dishonesty to pretend an 82 year old isn’t senile just because he’s the incumbent with the best shot at winning. The most comical part of all of this was the post debate reaction when people acted surprised yet were obviously just green lit to say out loud what everybody has known for a couple of years.

I'm sure you'll either ignore this or just do the dumb MAGA deflection post 100 more times, but there is no high road.

Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.

Article I, Section 3, Clause 7

Soo the party elite determining in a vacuum who the Proletariat will be voting for in the general election is a definition of democracy. Gotcha. What the hell do they teach in FU law school about civics?

Says the man who knows nothing about civics.....

Let's all laugh together at MAGA who are suddenly concerned about civics. Anybody who supports the felon doesn't have
a logical leg to stand on....about anything. Do try to understand that.

Clarence Thomas and Alito are now at home, sitting by their Trac Phones, waiting for a call from one of their rich, dark-money
conservative friends offering a secret luxury vacation. For the corrupt grifters, it's now "personal hospitality" time!

There's nothing false about these scenarios at all. In fact, with a man like the gangster they are very real. We're talking about a guy who tried
to extort the president of another country--one under siege from Russian and needing America's help--to gin up a fake scandal about his political opponent--Biden. Official act!

We'll find out if lying about vote fraud to start an insurrection--when it was clearly affirmed that there was no vote fraud--and conspiring with private individuals to overturn the election were official acts or personal acts--and everybody but SCOTUS justices knows they were private acts.

We are living and witnessing the downfall of this country. And his name is Donald Trump. His SCOTUS overturned R V. W and gave him immunity to commit crimes as long as it's "official." Pushing the Bible in public school is downright shameful religion does not belong in school. You go to school to learn life skills anything religious is indoctrination, something R's are constantly squawking about.
good freaking grief.

Neither do Drag Queen book readers.

Okay, maybe one of our "lawyers" can explain the immunity decision to me. I didn't think they ruled in favor of blanket immunity, just any official actions taken as POTUS. Is that wrong? If Trump committed crimes that had nothing to do with his office, he can still be prosecuted. That's what I got from the article I read, but maybe I'm wrong? Lawyers?
Why are all our bleeders complaining. This ruling just protected Biden from murder charges for costing the lives of service members in his Afgan withdrawal. And this is a prez that criticizes the SCOTUS on the one hand for it's rulings, and openly defies what they say is illegal in regards to student debt forgiveness. But, F Trump, eh?
