The Taxslayer Gator Bowl: #22 Clemson (8-4) vs Kentucky (7-5) (ESPN, 12PM ET)

I would argue otherwise. These are two losses by teams which are considered two of Tennessee's best wins. I would rather the conference be 2-0 at this point.
I wasn't trying to infer these losses are anything other than losses. The bowl standings really doesn't mean anything anymore. It is basically just a measure of which teams lost the fewest players to opt outs and transfer portal.

TN didn't really have a good win this season and we didn't need bowl season to know this. Iowa would be the lone bright spot if the Vols could win. Even then, it's pretty "meh".

Can't argue much with that, but the A&M win was nice because that could have gone either way. It would have been an ugly 7-5 had we dropped that one. A win over Iowa would definitely be a nice way to close out the season.

Both teams face the same issues. If one team, for example Clemson or Iowa, who chooses not to over utilize the transfer portal, may be at a disadvantage becuase of it during the regular season but benefit by it during bowl season.

You can say they don't matter. But we still watch, keep score, and count the wins and losses. They matter. Maybe they don't matter as much as a regular season conference game, but I'd say they matter more than playing cupcake FCS teams.

If Kentucky and Texas A&M won their game, I'd continue to think they were decent wins. Not great, but decent. Instead both are 7-6 teams. So now they seem mehh.

Beating Iowa....mehh..

The only games that matter are playoff games. The rest of the bowls are b sides of the albums, spring training, preseason games. It didn't used to be this way, but the NCAA has allowed it to come to this.
Both teams may have the opt outs and transfer portal, but like I said, the one it affects least is the one getting the win

Sure maybe run of the mill bowl games meant more a few years ago, but this notion they don't mean anything is ridiculous. Beating Iowa is a top 25 win. Its culminates in a 9-4 season and carries momentum into next season. It gives us an evaluation of young players who are looking to move up the depth chart. A good showing by Nico could be advatageous in our ability to finish this recruiting class strong. It means something and something is more than nothing.

This is ridiculous thinking. Only fans feel this way. Bowl games matter. Big time. They matter to the staff, the program and most importantly the players.

I'm sorry, but I disagree that these games most importantly matter to the players...that is obviously untrue.

I agree with all of that, but attendance is suffering in every bowl. There are tons of tickets available. Bowl games used to be a huge deal. Now, the players don't even care and choose to transfer or opt out.

Never underestimate Kentucky’s ability to lose games but this Klubnik guy has really regressed

Klubnik should take a queue from Bo Nix and head to a better offensive school. Clemson isn’t going to help him shine.

Sorry but you are wrong. To the ones who are opting out, yes they don’t matter. You think the bowl game doesn’t matter to the ones who are starting in the game? If so, prove it. Show me proof that the game is irrelevant ti Squirrell, Nico, Cooper, Sampson and many others.

Show your proof.

I love going to a bowl. ANY bowl. The Vol walk is still the Vol Walk whether it is in Knoxville or Tampa or Orlando. I've been to quite a few of them. Some we have won and some we lost, but it is still a great experience. But I wish all of the players would finish what they started.

Come on. The early Bowl games have always been notorious for empty seats.

I feel the same way. I love it when we make a bowl game. I don’t like the opt outs either.
