1. This was the best performance all season, and one of the best all around performances of the Cuonzo Martin Era. I doubt Virginia is a NCAA tourney team, but scoring 85+ points against Virginia is meaning ****ing business.

2. It was obvious Tennessee should run and attack the shot clock early today, and Martin took advantage of it. Virginia had no chance. It helps when you shoot the lights out from deep like UT did, but they were good looks all game. The players really should be happy with this game.

3. Martin was on it tonight. Great set calls, every substitution made sense, the defensive game plan was solid, the offensive game plan was fantastic. Just a wonderful job by him. He has deserved a ton of criticism this season, but you have to give him credit today.

4. However, it starts with the defense too. The defense was very good. They guarded hard off ball and Jarnell really anchored the defense today. His paint coverage was impressive today. McRae really gave great effort, and Barton pressured the ball all day.

5. Jarnell Stokes went 12-14 from the free throw line. That's a testament to hard work. Happy for him.

6. When you attack the basket, good things happen. Virginia loves to cover the paint, and make you shoot outside. UT got easy looks because they protected the ball on drives. Against Virginia, good on ball screens are very important. Stokes/Maymon did a nice job getting the UT guards loose to attack the basket and hit the outside jump shots. Going 11-18 from the three point line helps.

7. The Bernard King Player of the Game: You can't go wrong with Jordan McRae, who played a complete game, but Josh Richardson's first ten minutes set the tone for this game. He was aggressive on both sides of the ball, and he's becoming a real scoring threat. Keep getting him shots.

8. Only complaint? 13 offensive rebounds for Virginia. That's about five too many.

9. 2/3 (18/27). That is your number(s) of the game. Why? Tennessee had 27 field goals made. They had 18 assists. You will win a lot of ball games with that kind of numbers. Not only that, but no player had more than five assists, which means everyone was involved passing the ball.

10. A really good victory. I'm very happy with the performance. I hope, hope, hope this turns the season around and gets the Vols ready for conference play (one more game with Tusculum first). I don't want to call this a signature win, but damn this was a really impressive win the committee will look at. Good, solid victory to end the year on.

Happy New Year Everyone! Be safe tomorrow and I hope you enjoyed the last postgame report of 2013. Go Vols!!!! :hi:

Martin understood how to play Virginia (especially after last year). You don't play their style, you force them to run, and that's what Tennessee did.

What a "sweet" post game report. So glad to read this vs. what we have been.

Interesting season stat. We have averaged losing by only 7 points, but have averaged winning by 20.1.

I wonder if Martin was as surprised as we were.
Who woulda thunk it?

Well coached game. I loved the pressure we showed early in the game. Loved the big guys running down, getting position and throwing it to them early instead of too much motion up top while bigmen stand still. First time I've really seen us play inside out like tonight and its another reason we shot the ball well. Guards love that pass coming from the post. Shooter and everybody in the gym feels like its going in.

I'm going to get ridiculously drunk tomorrow and practice making babies with some random girl.

Hope I'm shooting with the same accuracy as the Vols

Nice report. The only thing I disagree with you about is regarding the player of the game. I think Josh Richardson is just as deserving as McRae. Richardson really got the Vols going on offense with his hot shooting. He has improved dramatically since his freshman season. He could barely make a layup as a freshman, and tonight he looked like Chris Lofton at times. He has always been a dependable defender, and now his offensive skills are catching up with his defense. Lets hope this trend continues for UT.

That has me optimistic too. In the past we generally played the other teams style and adjusted to them. We are finally making other teams adjust to our style.

Unless I read it wrong, he gave it to Josh.

With that kind of shooting accuracy, better pack your bags for a trip to the Maury Povich show.

Look guys I watched the game too. There were some good moments. There were some bad moments. But everyone looks good when shots are falling. I hope they have turned the corner. But like Jimmy Dykes said. Doubt Tennessee shoots like this again the rest of the season. But defensively they have got to play like this every game. And its said after every game and by every announcer. Maymon and Stokes can't jump.

IMO, Stokes is very deserving of player of the game.

He played excellent defense and shot 12-14 from the line... 12 of mother ****ing 14 from the line!

I can't wrap my mind around that.
