The "This is a good early present for Z's birthday tomorrow" Postgame Report

Joe Lunardi said the other day that UT needed to win around 14 of 18 games in the SEC to have a chance to qualify for the NCAA tourney. Our RPI coming into last nights game was in the 180s. UTEP and Xavier were bad losses that the committee will look back come selection time. We have only a handful of chances to significantly raise the RPI based on our remaining schedule. Last night was a great win.... it was also virtually a must win early in the season.

Those are the reasons I think the hole is big.

Wtf are you talking about?

Do you really think nobody is gonna call you on your BS.

1. Where did Lunardi say that, I've seen nothing of the sort.

2. You're about 100 spots off on UTs RPI heading into last night.

3. Xavier is not a bad loss. Losing at their place, to a borderline top 50 RPI team is in no way shape or form a bad loss.

No way is a loss @Xavier a bad loss (in view of the committee). We may have been disappointed, but Xavier is now 10-3 with losses to Iowa, Tennessee, and USCw. They beat Cincinnati, @Alabama, Wake Forest, and St. Johns.

Xavier has a RPI of 26 lmao, is this dude serious?

No doubt the best coached game Martin has ever had. This look like a completely different team. Nice write up.

Agree. Xavier would have done wonders for us if we would have won and I honestly didnt think they were going to be a good team. I'm afraid they'll get hammered in conference play but I hope they keep winning....they are a lot better than advertized.

This is why I didn't even respond.

1-0 so far...pulling for an undefeated season for em.

Realtime has Xavier at 43 and us at 63 at the moment. I do agree with you that we win 14 in the SEC we are dancing in the 5 range.

Realtimerpi doesn't update multiple times a day, therefore the win Xavier had over st johns today hasn't been figured in to their rankings.

Rpiforecast has Xavier at 26 and Tennessee at 61

Everybody keeps referring back to the Xavier loss at their place, which would not be considered as a bad loss toward RPI. Nobody seems to want to give us credit for beating them on a neutral floor, which is a good RPI win IMO.

His point was it'll take a 14-4 SEC record to have a chance to get in with the UTEP, Xavier and NC State OOC losses on our record. What's the likelihood we only lose 4 conference games?

Yea that statement is as asinine the 2nd time as it was the 1st time.

It's what he said whether you or I or anybody else thinks it's asinine.

All I've heard on TSR and 104.5 in Nashville about Tennessee basketball was how they've dug themselves a hole with the losses at Xavier, vs UTEP and vs NC State, that each of those were very winnable games that they needed given the overall weakness of the SEC in regards to bumping up their RPI. That their only "good loss" vs the Wichita State game.

If I was mistaken about their RPI coming into the Virginia game, which it appears I was, then my bad.... could've sworn that's what I'd heard.... wasn't trying to peddle BS.

I wasn't sure they would be great either, but now my guess is they will be in the top 3rd of their conference. DePaul, Providence, and Seton Hall aren't great, and Marquette and Georgetown clearly aren't as good as previous years. Xavier can play with Butler and Creighton, and Villanova probably is the best team.

The SEC is actually not as bad as it could be. The bottom half is terrible, but Missouri, Arkansas, LSU, and somewhat Ole Miss create good opportunities for wins in addition to UF and UK. Xavier was not a bad loss. At this point, I am not upset at UTEP because were going 2-1 in that tourney regardless. UTEP will win 20 games in a bad conference. The NC State game is the one that hurts.

For a change, this was a very entertaining game to watch. Enjoyed the energy the players showed. Not sure they can shoot that percentage again this year. Still, entertaining!

If those news stations are reporting that, it's just bad on them. The information they are reporting is laughably wrong.

Xavier at their place isn't a bad loss, and the SEC has 5 top 50 rpi teams currently with a few more on the bubble. Winning 14 in conference would have us in as a 4-6 seed.

Best game of the year the Vols. They played extremely well - perhaps they will keep it up.

Where did he say this, because I'm quite certain you're mistaken like you were with the RPI. KenPom has said 12 sec wins and we are a lock, I've seen nothing from Lunardi suggesting the contrary.

Xavier has a RPI of 26. That's the very definition of a "good loss" and a "good win".

Rpiforecast.com is a great up to the minute website to keep tabs on the RPI
