Now that's how I expect this team to play!!! We have too much talent not to be a very good team like we were tonight. Also, I must be a good luck charm since I got to be there in person for the first time this year.

I don't know what happened tonight, but this team hasn't been able to shoot the ball all season long. Did Cuonzo bring somebody in during the last week to teach these guys how to shoot the ball, or did he just start focusing more on the fundamentals of shooting in practice? Whatever he did to improve it he did a good job and needs to keep it up.

If we start playing more like that then we may still have a chance to make the NCAA. Good job tonight Vols!!!

Deep breath. It was a remarkably shocking performance but we have been here before. These type performances don't make up for the negative ones and I think sometimes people think they do.

Losses doesn't mean the season is over. I think sometimes people think they do.

1. This was the best performance all season, and one of the best all around performances of the Cuonzo Martin Era. I doubt Virginia is a NCAA tourney team, but scoring 85+ points against Virginia is meaning ****ing business.

2. It was obvious Tennessee should run and attack the shot clock early today, and Martin took advantage of it. Virginia had no chance. It helps when you shoot the lights out from deep like UT did, but they were good looks all game. The players really should be happy with this game.

3. Martin was on it tonight. Great set calls, every substitution made sense, the defensive game plan was solid, the offensive game plan was fantastic. Just a wonderful job by him. He has deserved a ton of criticism this season, but you have to give him credit today.

4. However, it starts with the defense too. The defense was very good. They guarded hard off ball and Jarnell really anchored the defense today. His paint coverage was impressive today. McRae really gave great effort, and Barton pressured the ball all day.

1. Agree
2. Agree. Against one of the statistically best D's in the NCAA, we spread the ball out, and shot lights out. Richardson was fantastic.
3. Not sure. I know it is part of the head coach's gig to get criticism and credit. But, is it possible we put too much on Martin?? I mean, the games we've lost, our players have just played poorly IMO. All around: FT shooting, FG%, D, poor lane and post work against length inside, etc. And games we've won decidedly, we notably shot much better, and performed much better in all aspects. Seems with this team it is hot/cold, and comes down to execution. We either play well, and win (exception being Wich St. on the road, where I think we played pretty well, but lost), or we play poorly and lose. Now, I would say, I am disappointed with the # of games we've played poorly in, but how much of it really is Martin/in-game scheming?? Thoughts Z?
4. Great D.

5. Jarnell Stokes went 12-14 from the free throw line. That's a testament to hard work. Happy for him.

6. When you attack the basket, good things happen. Virginia loves to cover the paint, and make you shoot outside. UT got easy looks because they protected the ball on drives. Against Virginia, good on ball screens are very important. Stokes/Maymon did a nice job getting the UT guards loose to attack the basket and hit the outside jump shots. Going 11-18 from the three point line helps.

7. The Bernard King Player of the Game: You can't go wrong with Jordan McRae, who played a complete game, but Josh Richardson's first ten minutes set the tone for this game. He was aggressive on both sides of the ball, and he's becoming a real scoring threat. Keep getting him shots.

8. Only complaint? 13 offensive rebounds for Virginia. That's about five too many.

9. 2/3 (18/27). That is your number(s) of the game. Why? Tennessee had 27 field goals made. They had 18 assists. You will win a lot of ball games with that kind of numbers. Not only that, but no player had more than five assists, which means everyone was involved passing the ball.

10. A really good victory. I'm very happy with the performance. I hope, hope, hope this turns the season around and gets the Vols ready for conference play (one more game with Tusculum first). I don't want to call this a signature win, but damn this was a really impressive win the committee will look at. Good, solid victory to end the year on.

Happy New Year Everyone! Be safe tomorrow and I hope you enjoyed the last postgame report of 2013. Go Vols!!!! :hi:

Agree on all points Z.

Best-coached game all season, and that is two extremely efficient offensive games (from start to finish) in a row, following one of the worst offensive performances I can remember in terms of efficiency (vs NCSU). We made UVA play at the pace we wanted, not the other way around (see last year's game). They were very uncomfortable and we shut Harris down. As you said, we attacked the basket and were rewarded for the effort with 25 FT attempts (which we converted at an 88% clip). Bottom line, we are making shots now that we weren't making 2-3 weeks ago, both at the line and from the field, but pace, spacing, substitutions, and defense are all improving as well in the past two games.

Martin is starting to earn back my trust, but he needs to win a game he shouldn't before I'm back on board. LSU is a good place to start.

Great win at home. great play by whole team at home .. Big moment of truth.. LSU game.. Can they play well on the road next week.. Need Richardson and Barton to be consistent.....Critical game....if win, can shoot for NCAA....if lose, back behind the 8 ball.
Outside of Kent., Florida, Missouri, and LSU, SEC very weak....in SEC will be hard to get good quality wins outside of the top four...

Missed SC this morning. Anybody know if Bartons's long 3 b4 half or J Mc's dunk made the top 10? They had zero chance of being #1 thanks to Marcus Smarts nasty, filthy, disgusting oop. WOW!!!

Blind Hog Theory at work. One nice game but to say this team is over the hump, fairy tale of giant proportions.

So we've jumped back on the ZO bandwagon. Oops ! Mis judged the jump.

No. We beat Kentucky like a drum last year too. BUT, if we can play like this against the SEC and get some quality wins (Florida, Kentucky, LSU), then Cuonzo may have it turned around. It's going to take a lot for me to jump back on, but this was a good start.

If I'm looking for a negative from this game, we only got 6 points from the bench on something like 2-14 shooting. That's bad.

Had to be more than that tho. Hubbs had 6 and DT had a bucket also. Not to split hairs with you, just sayin...

You get to go to the game last night?

Yea I took my grandfather. Me and him had a great time except he always has little remarks about how I go bezerk on every crappy call. He was a high school ref up in Louisville, so he is a little touchy when people yell at refs.
