This is all we want. The team.to play up.to its potential.

CCM can convert a lot of us if he can keep the team playing like they did tonight.

Agree. Unfortunately they've already dug themselves a big enough hole that they're gonna have to play at this level with virtually no letdown to have a chance to play in the tourney.

Great to see them perform to what we all believe is their potential last night. Here's to hoping they keep it going.

Missed SC this morning. Anybody know if Bartons's long 3 b4 half or J Mc's dunk made the top 10? They had zero chance of being #1 thanks to Marcus Smarts nasty, filthy, disgusting oop. WOW!!!

Barton made it late last night

I don't really get where you think the hole is that big? Yes they need to win some games I'm conference. They missed out on some quality wins, but as I see it now we don't have terrible losses. I rather have two more wins right now but we aren't in that big of hole.

Good one, Bleed. We could probably hang a nice banner in the rafters if we could do that for the season. lol

And set quite a few NCAA records in the process. To ask for that effort every night is fine, but to expect that kind of shooting performance, or defensive performance on a nightly basis is not smart.

We are an extreme fan base - too high after wins and too low after losses. The shots were falling at an unusually high rate against UVA. It was like UT could do no wrong as in the half time heave ho.

Would have been a very close game if everything UT threw up didn't go in. To their credit, there were few poor shots taken. It's still disturbing the trouble UT has against tall post players and I don't see how they can effort or coach their way around that problem. Maymon plays like the 40 year old guys at the Y, just hasn't recovered from his leg injury.

I'm starting to think their best hope for the season might be fewer minutes of Stokes and Maymon at the same time.

I think you saw less of them together last night. Ironic, as we were all convinced that Stokes would have benefitted from Maymon's presence last season. It hasn't played out that way this year, albeit with a damaged version of Maymon.

When Stokes is moving without the bball, I think they play pretty well together. Maymon has nice vision for a big, and is able to set up a pass. If Stokes puts in work, I like the two together. They just have to get inside position, because they are both undersized.

Did this win remind anyone else of the beat down we gave the kitty cats last year?

Maymon's bad wheel has turned him into a lane-clogger at this point though. His loss of athleticism was clearly evident when he was run down from behind on the break.

You're right, he is an excellent passer, as well as a decent ball-handler, but we need him to score and rebound inside, and he is just in the way a lot of times, though he does show flashes of his former self at times (Morehead and NCSU game).

Edit: I'm not saying Maymon is useless either. In his last 5 games, he's still averaging 12.2 ppg and 9 rpg. He is just not the same physically. He's still an asset to our team and I'm glad to have him. He is starting to show signs (compared to early season) that he's getting more comfortable with what he CAN do, and hopefully last night was an aberration.

Felt down right bad for the kid when that happened last night. Not that last night was the first sign of this, but it certainly magnified it being in the open court.

He is still a decent rebounder without a vert. And his first step is still good enough to get around a lot of bigger defenders too. I am just glad he is able to run the floor like he used to.

I did too. You're right, it was more glaring out in the open like that.

1. Agree
2. Agree. Against one of the statistically best D's in the NCAA, we spread the ball out, and shot lights out. Richardson was fantastic.
3. Not sure. I know it is part of the head coach's gig to get criticism and credit. But, is it possible we put too much on Martin?? I mean, the games we've lost, our players have just played poorly IMO. All around: FT shooting, FG%, D, poor lane and post work against length inside, etc. And games we've won decidedly, we notably shot much better, and performed much better in all aspects. Seems with this team it is hot/cold, and comes down to execution. We either play well, and win (exception being Wich St. on the road, where I think we played pretty well, but lost), or we play poorly and lose. Now, I would say, I am disappointed with the # of games we've played poorly in, but how much of it really is Martin/in-game scheming?? Thoughts Z?
4. Great D.

In two losses this year, Tennessee has come out extremely flat and not showed. The UTEP game plan and coaching was terrible, along with NC State.

I thought the Xavier game was just first game jitters. We competed hard against Wichita State and had a good gameplan, but Stokes' foul trouble really hurt.

Happy New Year to Volnation and last night's victory was the most complete game in the CCM era at UT.

This is the UT basketball team I expected to see this season and be in the top ten by now.

Joe Lunardi said the other day that UT needed to win around 14 of 18 games in the SEC to have a chance to qualify for the NCAA tourney. Our RPI coming into last nights game was in the 180s. UTEP and Xavier were bad losses that the committee will look back come selection time. We have only a handful of chances to significantly raise the RPI based on our remaining schedule. Last night was a great win.... it was also virtually a must win early in the season.

Those are the reasons I think the hole is big.

If we win 14 games in the SEC we are a lock for the tourney IMO

No way is a loss @Xavier a bad loss (in view of the committee). We may have been disappointed, but Xavier is now 10-3 with losses to Iowa, Tennessee, and USCw. They beat Cincinnati, @Alabama, Wake Forest, and St. Johns.

As of today our RPI according to ESPN is 65. We need to take care of business in the SEC and we're in. No bad losses, i.e. Alabama or Georgia, and beating LSU and Arky would certainly help.

I'm not really sure I understand Lunardi's "preferred" RPI formula. San Diego State has an RPI of 48 but a Lunardi RPI of 304. Wichita State RPI 13, Lunardi 336. BEEEEEG DIFFERENCE!!!
