The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

There are a few different ways to approach this. It seems like, instead of noting that a lot of people support the players and thinking about why that is, there is a large contingent of people simply looking for reasons why the protest is bull****, or looking for excuses to ignore it. That's how you get "Well, Curry isn't protesting in China, so this protest is invalid!"

It would seem like instead of you noting that people don't support the players and thinking about why that is... you take upon yourself to say they are incorrect.

You are simply looking for reasons why the real protest is bull**** or looking for excuses to ignore it -- one is false "protest", the other one is have a real bottom line factor.

Par for the course from the left. They claim to be in favor of "women and gay rights" but their candidate will gladly accept millions from nations who treat women and gays like animals

They're fine when she calls the president a white supremacist, but when she goes after advertisers, they draw the line

Bill Simmons learned this the hard way. Make fun of outsiders all you want, but you don’t lay into Goodell or Silver or anybody they have contracts with.

Mike Pence should not have gone to the game yesterday. He knew damn well that some 49er players would be kneeling for the anthem because that's what they've been doing for over a year now. He claims to be a fan of Peyton Manning but had no problem with selfishly stealing the spotlight yesterday during a game intended to honor Manning's career. If Pence wanted to make a statement about these demonstrations, why pick this game? He could have gone to another 49ers game after all and then staged a public walkout and not trampled over Manning's moment. The entire focus of the media has been on what Pence did - which is of course, what he and Trump wanted.

I understand why that is. People think it's okay to protest, but that it needs to be done in a different way. It's just that people have said that for basically every protest by black people in the last century.

Of course, they already won -- just a matter of how much they win. This was decided weeks ago when Trump laid out the bait - stupid players/owners took the bait.

All this is about right now, is how much is lost -- the defeat was sealed a few weeks ago.

On the day Manning was inducted into the Ring of Honor, the top 5 headlines in the Indianapolis Star were about Pence--not Manning's ceremony, which is why Pence claimed he was there.

They got what they wanted which is a political win. Trump has controlled the board since the players/owners/coaches took the bait. Not sure what there is to explain really.

Trump will continue to use it until they are put into submission -- all the way the players are going to keep doing/saying dumb things which will be more ammo.

I guess the players should have stood. LOL

In order to be taken seriously, do people have to take up every cause or are they free to choose causes that are important to them?

Considering human rights are particularly bad in China and problems are made up here, yes, in this case he’d have to care about worse things than here. At least care about real problems, even just a little.

If Pence was truly a fan of Peyton Manning (a Republican for whatever it's worth), he would not have attended yesterday's game. Not everything in life should revolve around trying to score political points and "winning the news cycle". Yesterday's Colts game was intended to honor the career of their best ever player but was completely upstaged by a very selfish and unnecessary act. Once again, why didn't Pence select another 49er game to walk out of if he wanted to make a statement about their demonstrations? Why do that to yesterday's game? Unnecessary.

If I were to guess, his opinion would be that if the NFL truly was a fan of Peyton and America you wouldn't have all this foolishness going on. Unnecessary.

Pence just did his own protest -- his worked i.e. more political points.

The players are playing tic tac toe, they haven't even learned checkers yet -- let alone made to the chess room.

Al Sharpton and Shaun King have now given their 2 cents. Now it’s a party given that these 2 retards have shared their views. Kudos to ESPN getting both the left and right mad at you. Dilly Dilly.

That's deflection and you're right. Deflection is what he would do in effort to defend this. Mike Pence should not have attended that game yesterday. He knew that some 49er players would be kneeling. As an Indiana native, he should have wanted to avoid upstaging Manning's moment. He put himself above that. Very selfishly so.

He probably doesn't care what you think, his worked, what the players are doing has zero chances of working, unless the intent is to decrease the revenue take of the NFL and indirectly eventually to the players down the road.

For the last two weeks, all this is about is how much the NFL loses... there is no victory in this for them. I would say that was obvious two weeks ago, now even Forest Gump would understand.

Trump's strategy since day one has been to increase the divide. He is doing his best to force people to pick a side.

You are missing the bigger picture here which is this was a selfish act. Cutting off your nose to spot your face, if you will. Peyton Manning never took a knee during the national anthem and should not have been made a part of this. If Mike Pence was truly a fan of Manning's he would not have attended yesterday's game and overshadowed his ceremony. He knew the 49er players would be kneeling for the anthem because that is what they have been consistently doing for over a year now. Pence could and should have picked another game (literally any other game) to have made this statement.

You can’t demonize the message of a “side” when that “side” has no message.

The message "this isn't about disrespecting the military or the flag" has been sent about 128937192838273 times. But guess how Trump (and by extension, Pence) decided to frame it...

And that is why you have people boycotting (protesting) the NFL now -- what they did is considered by many to be a selfish act i.e cutting off your nose...

At this point, its about how much the NFL loses and how much Trump gains politically -- I would say fairly obvious at this point.
