The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

If you think a 1960s NFL team would beat a 2017 NFL team, you don’t have any “knowledge” about football.
I read all of VS's posts on the matter, and I don't find any where he opined on a 1960's NFL team versus a 2017 NFL team. Where did you read that he said that?

The only thing that I read was that he said old guys can always kick the sh!t out of young guys. A 1960's NFL team wasn't made up of old guys, and I'm pretty sure they would lose today at age 80.

Might have been the wrong person, but the idea that men respected women more in essentially the Mad Men era is equally laughable

Guys just a PSA there are FOUR college games on tonight. And the teams aren’t very good. I didn’t want anyone to be innocently flipping through the channels and lose their true football fan card. Don’t wind up like me.

Yeah. In reality, men were the secretaries and women ran the business.
You have no idea how women were treated years ago. You weren't around. You know only whatever you have read, or been taught by a liberal dominated educational system.

Yes, big business was male dominated, but there were several small businesswomen like my mother who had just as much success, respect as a business person, and access to whatever she desired as any man. She was not held back by anything because she was driven to succeed.

What business did your mother run?

Dry goods store for folks headed out for the Oregon Trail?

She provided pooper scoopers to Noah.

Edit: Another thing that I just thought about was that in the early 1900's, a woman started our local newspaper which developed a large media company which stayed in the family over 100 years until this year. Also, in the 1950's our little town had 2 banks, one of which is still in existence. The one local bank had one Vice President then, and she was a female, and her husband had nothing to do with her being a banker.

There were several local business women in my town back then, so it ticks me off when Huff thinks they were all secretaries, maids, or barefoot and pregnant. I don't remember seeing women being treated with anything other than respect where I come from.

Sounds like your mother was self employed. I'm talking about female employees and how they were treated. There was little opportunity for upper management. You think women were treated better before sexual harassment lawsuits became a thing? You don't need to have seen it firsthand to know it happened more before you could get in trouble for it. That's just common sense.

So there were some exceptions to a culture that largely called women “sweetie.”

That’s cool, but if you think we’ve been trending away from feminism since the ‘60s, it’s probably better if it’s based on something other than personal anecdotes. This isn’t really a situation where “I’m older, so I’m automatically right” applies.

You lived it. You know more than I do.

I just looked up the weather forecast for where our place is, and tonight will be 43, tomorrow high 64 and low of 53, but Wednesday, high supposed to be 42 and low 29. It should be about the same at Beech. maybe colder because it's in the clouds.
