The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

Allude and elude are words.

Maybe my problem is that I pronounce them the same way. My mom grew up in Rockwood.
Side note: Does anyone refer to a garden hose as a hose pipe? I do.

My wife has given me grief for 28 years. Then it appeared in one of the Harry Potter books and I realized it was just a British thing.

The other day one of the coaches on my son's football team said hose pipe. I asked him where he was from. Turns out he was born in Sevierville. (how much of an exclusively TN thing is using the term hose pipe?)

I'm not here defending Kaepernick.

I'm mostly directing my outrage at the hypocrisy. If only we had this same level of outrage when REAL crimes against our Republic are being committed. Instead, we have a bunch of right wingers that want to virtue signal and show how big of a patriot they are because some guy on Sunday playing a kid's game didn't properly honor a symbol.

This is not just a right wing issue.... several liberals have issue with it as well...

I think it is happening exactly ho you would expect it too.... even before the PC crowd came about.... the three things you don’t mess with is country, family, and religion.

Fair argument about his motives.

What does that have to do with the military or not being a patriot?

Nothing, that's why you don't see me arguing about it. The only thing I've ever said is what I said, the timing.

I would call you more of a "hoser".......

Why would that be more meaningful? Right now they’re risking their livelihoods to spread the message to far more people than would happen in that scenario.
lulz. You really believe their livelihoods are at stake? The patron saint martyr clown is the only one that lost his job because of it and that is a stretch to even say that.

I’d say that the NFL is still more widely watched than the college games. I just don’t have a team in the league that I give 2 shots about. I can’t sit for 2+ hours watching a game where I don’t care who wins.
That's why I didn't watch the NC game.

:birgits_giggle:

Spoken like a seasoned yahoo

Nothing wrong with liking college football better than the NFL, but believing it's a better sport is absurd. The NFL is the best of the best competing against one another
College overtime is 10000000X more exciting than pro. In the pro game they just want to get it over with and cash the check.

And I don’t see the point in telling people to show pride if it’s not what they feel. If someone sees their friends killed by police and thinks the country needs to do more to deserve that pride, I don’t think there is anything “inappropriate” about expressing that. The alternative is faking pride so Republicans won’t yell at you.

They have the right to protest. I've not argued that. I have said that while on the field they are at work. As such, their employer can set conduct standards saying don't protest while you're on the job. If you're at work and decide to burn a flag in protest, does your employer have the right to fire you? Conduct can be a term of employment.

My statements on the symbology of the flag and the anthem, that's not an argument against their right to protest. That's about pointing out why other people might be upset. As the players are allowed to feel no respect for either, those that do feel they should be honored have the right to their opinion as well. It is no less valid. Am I offended when I see a player kneel? Damn right I am. I'm just as entitled to my opinion as they are their own. Some of you seem to argue those who are offended don't have the right to be. That's bull****.

Country, family and religion have been under attack for over 30 years. Yet, no where near the same level of venom over those violations as you would see if someone burned a flag or didn't pledge allegiance. You would get an azz whipping for disrespecting a flag in public. But if you remove God from schools or the 10 Commandments from a building, split up the nuclear family and promote alternative lifestyles, and attack property rights and civil liberties, these same folks wouldn't crush a grape.

Notice that they make an oath to pay allegiance to the Constitution, as well, not a flag.

Ras, how many times has the Constitution been amended? I'm not defending people openly defying the Constitution, but you're taking a strict definition against something that is far more nuanced. Players absolutely have the right to protest. If they want to do it on their own time, fine. When you accept employment, it comes with terms and conditions. The NFL has the right to limit their protests while they're on the job, IMO. They can set rules of conduct. In that situation, their Constitutional rights are not being infringed upon. The NFL has not come out and told them they cannot protest outside their work setting. Hell, if this cause is so great to them, why are more not protesting outside their work environment?

And still you miss what my point is. I'm not making this an argument about the first amendment. I'm simply pointing out the hypocrisy of the right wing snowflakes. They care more about symbols that don't have a direct impact on their daily lives, yet they don't do diddly-squat when real attacks on their daily lives are made.

That you believe I'm a progressive is just one of the reasons I believe you to be ignorant. Yes, I disagree with you, but that makes me centered.

And no, dumbass, under no circumstance or context should a sitting POTUS make such a STUPID comment.

You seem inflammed. Maybe Preparation H will do the trick.

Kaepernick is a distraction. It’s not because of race, it’s not because he’s been blackballed. If this were Cam, Russell Wilson, Watson, they be signed in a second. His talent doesn’t exceed his distraction and drama. To me it’s not about his kneeling, it’s the dumb, immature stuff he’s done since he began kneeling.

Put it this this way:

The juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

Rare time i disagree with you bro, outside the polic3 thread.

I dont think there was any collusion..NFL owners and execs are insanely competitive, they may have 1 or 2 buddies...and hate the other 29 teams and owners.

I just think no team in their right mind would bring in a QB that is very average ...like 14 qbs better than him starting, 17 that arent...when he is clearly a drama starter, all about himself, and personally, single handedly dropped ratings and therefore income for the entire league by 15 or 20% last year...I don't think he will ever play in the NFL again ...he's no Michael vick..he best get on up 5o Canada like Johnny football just did
..and be smart with the money he earned in the league or he will go broke and have to...gasp...work a real job like we all do.

And he is an example to all the other players...absolutely did it to himself

What not to do...what he did.

At times, yes.

Obama never said anything this stupid though: "if they can't stand for the national anthem, then they need to get out of the country".....is Trump really that stupid? Yes
Are many of Trump's supporters so stupid that they love this talk? Yes

You should take that paraphrase out of quote marks.
