The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

At times, yes.

Obama never said anything this stupid though: "if they can't stand for the national anthem, then they need to get out of the country".....is Trump really that stupid? Yes
Are many of Trump's supporters so stupid that they love this talk? Yes

Remember yesterday when you were screaming you were a better patriot because you didn't support Trump? Here's the rub, some believe standing for the anthem is a patriotic duty honoring those who have fought and died for this country in the past, and those who continue to fight and risk their lives for this country today. You can disagree with that, it's okay. After all, the right to have an opinion and express it, no matter how idiotic, is part of what makes this country great. But simply opposing a differing opinion does not equate to that opinion being stupid. How about you actually formulate strong arguments rather than resorting to playground taunts on intelligence to support your stance?

Now, this is just my take mind you, but here's how I see it. I'm one of those who hold the opinion that standing for the anthem is more about honoring those who have fought and died for our country. You know, those who gave of themselves so we could enjoy the freedoms we have. So when a football player making millions of dollars to play a game decides he wants to "protest" by kneeling during the anthem, it feels like a slap in the face to the memory of those who should be honored. Mind you, they have every right to make that choice, mostly because the people they're disrespecting fought to give them that right, but is it proper to choose that moment to do so? JMO, but I don't think so.

I don't feel people being outraged by the choice of venue and in return expressing their opinion is in anyway "stupid". The have the same right to express their opinion as the NFL players you're defending have the right to protest. Remember, people fought and died to give them that right.

Again, jmo, but the fact so many are willing to spit on the heritage of our country is one of the problems I see facing our future. We enjoy many rights, but it's up to us to employ those rights in a responsible, thought out way. Abusing those rights does not serve the common good.

College football is more pure. Don't read that as college football is pure. It has impurities, but the NFL has far more. In college, you're playing for a future. In the NFL, you're playing for a paycheck. Subtle changes in the game.

How would you view an Iranian soccer player that takes a knee during the playing of the Iranian National Anthem? How about a North Korean?

High school football is tops.

I am proud of my country, and I get chills listening to the national anthem or taps being played. I am extremely thankful that I was born here. Is it perfect? No, but it's pretty dang good, compared to most places. The U.S. provides opportunity, but it's up to the individual to take advantage of it.

The real reason most people say this is because college athletes are not paid. That has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the sport or how hard they play, but don't try convincing them of that.

That’s not entirely true..... I love both sports and the atmosphere around college football is so much better. All the different traditions and pageantry is what makes it special.

As long as people see them with consistency, I'm good.
You are welcome to look back on my posts about Kaepernick. I have also said that people should be able to burn the flag if they wish. I also have said that I wouldn't blame someone if they stomped the flag burner's ass because of it. You know.....consequences.

I agree, just as it would be okay if a group of pro Iranians stomped the ass of the Iranian knee taker.

I would think there's a man not long for the world. He'd probably be executed not long after.

JMO, but I think it is hypocritical to stand for the flag, but not have the same level of outrage when the Constitution is under attack all the time and I don't see you or the people that served and gave an oath to uphold the Constitution get anywhere near as upset or bent out of shape for those actions that actually have a direct impact on your life, liberties and property.

In other words, I think it is low hanging fruit for the masses to be outraged and distracted about. Some guy playing a game on Sundays not standing for the flag has zero impact on your life, liberty or property, yet we see constant attacks on the Constitution all of the time and no one on that side does anything.

I would say very, very subtle.

The Constitution is considered a living document because it's designed to be amended with the times. Factor in when questions are raised about interpretation, the courts decide. Ras, the Constitution is far more than just a symbol. Far more complex than just a symbol. People do get outraged when it's attacked, but it was designed to be challenged. A symbol is something simple, meant to inspire. Whether it's the anthem, or the flag, or whatever else, it's meant to inspire pride in one's country, and unity.

If an individual did physically attack a person for burning a flag they indeed are open to a battery charge. I’ve said I would struggle with this if it happened in front of me. I think I would try to retrieve the flag. If they struck me while doing so I’d have to see how it unfolded. If it was a slap fight I hope I would take the slaps and move forward. If it were forceful strikes I may decide to return the strikes.
