The Walking Dead

Totally forgot about Heath and Terra until I was reminded Heath was with the comic group.

I think the actress that plays Tara just had a baby so they probably needed a reason to get her off the show for a bit.

The Heath character misses all the fun stuff out on runs.

What struck me is how defeated Rick looked. The man had his head over a trough ready to be slaughtered once and still looked his capturer in the eye and told him how he planned to kill him. He didn't look nearly as defiant this time.

I was thinking this too. He has been a savage and all the sudden he just gives in. I know they are obviously outnumbered but they have been in situations like this before where he still stood his ground.

I guess this time he realizes just how organized these guys are. If you listen while they are all making bird noises there is a point when they first surround Rick and the group where the bird noises literally turn into a loud jumbled mess indicating they have tons of people out in the woods. Sounded like they have numbers for days.

Should've expected a kick to the nuts with this episode. The it's clear that the creators/writers are now more interested in staying on top of the ratings than telling a good story. This Lost-style BS has got to stop.

You're right about Tara.

I just hope they start next season right where it ended.

Knowing Gimple, you'll get 2 flashback/bottle episodes before they pick up from the end.

First episode, a special 90 minute black and white episode showing how Negan came up with Lucille. He continues to wrap objects in barbed wire until he finds the perfect choice.

"Golf club?....nope". "Hockey stick?......nope".

Second episode: How Enid escaped the closet, the emotional climb up to the sniper tower for Gabriel, and Spencer wonders if he's just a booty call for Rosita.

Do you think the show was better before Gimble took over?

Honest question.

Not necessarily, but he's gotten progressively worse. He can't seem to be consistent to save his life.

On Talking Dead he was being very defensive, like he knew how badly the finale was being received and went into spin mode.

Rick's mentality took a hit as soon as he saw the Michone walker.

He was flat out defeated at that last encounter. His desperation when he mentioned "talk this out" was rough.

What was Rick supposed to do he was completely surrounded. He knew he was defeated and no longer in control anymore.

So cliffhanger ending aside, you feel this is the worst season since he took over?

I feel like the show has hit it's stride since he took over. I think it was much more uneven during the Prison storyline before he came on and kind of fixed it at the end.

People watching it week-to-week get frustrated with the pace at times but I think the binge watchers see the bigger picture.

What was he supposed to do when his hands were tied behind his back and bent over a trough prepped for slaughter? He WAS defeated at that point if not for Carol wreaking havoc at just the right moment.

I think aside from the 3-4 episodes post mid season break, it's been bleh. Which goes back to he's inconsistent. I don't think at the least he's any less uneven than before and at time even worse.

And lol at binge-watchers seeing "the bigger picture". Come on man. Even binge watchers can see inconsistency, unless they ignore it.

Well I'll just have to disagree with you about the direction of the show since Gimble. I admit there have been bad but overall I think he's given the show a voice it has t had since the first season.

As for his appearance on TD last night I do think he was prepared for the knee jerk reaction by fans but I also think he is still confident in his decision. He made a point that they have to deliver on the season opener.

Ending episode would have been much better if they had made them draw straws or drawn names or whatever like Jackson's "The Lottery." Poor writing in my opinion.

That's one thing you can't blame writing on. Unless the comics are bad writing. They followed the comics almost perfectly at the end last night. From "pee pee pants city," to "eenie meenie minie moe" That was the dialogue in the comics. I thought it seemed a bit strange on tv, but at the same time made Negan come across as a strange individual which he is supposed to be.

Would have been much more gangster if Negan had forced Rick to pick which one got Luciled. Who would he have chosen?

This show should evolve into something akin to medieval times as they run out of ammunition and there should be less walkers too. The show should continue to evolve into warring factions. Neegan is the feudal lord of their faction and Rick works his way up through the ranks and eventually kills him and takes his place over the course of a couple seasons. That would be a great plot line. The other members have to get with the program or die. Also, I'm thinking it is going to be Michone who gets killed. If I were the writer that's who I'd kill off. That would also give Rick impetus to move up through the ranks and eventually kill Neegan.

Nah, he would have just chosen himself. But, if Neegan put the names in a hat and slowly drawn them out with the last one being the one who gets bashed then that would have provided a lot of drama. If the last two names were Maggie and Michone, then he pulls the name out without revealing and bash that person off screen with the blood then everyone would have wondered all off season is it Maggie or Michone. A lot of drama and interest.

For one, interesting you call it "knee jerk reactions". Does that mean when fans praise the episode 2 minutes after it's off, those are "knee jerk reactions" too?

Secondly, it's not just fans. The reviews for the episode have been largely negative by critics. Even The Nerdist (Hardwick's baby) criticized it.

Nah, the Eeny-meeny-miny-moe thing was perfect.
