Rick turned into feeling like and being the bad ass on the block to someone's *****. Happened so fast his head was spinning. No way out and no control. Now outmanned, out gunned and out crazied. In previous seasons he always seemed like could figure it out.

Am sure he or they will maneuver their way back up but it ain't going to be pretty. I hate cliff hangers but this one is doing exactly what it's intended to do. Invoke emotion and dialogue. I see a lot of that going on.

I'm pretty sure Gimple didn't expect a lot of the actual dialogue going on. There's no way he expected the reviews to be this harsh.

yep, except it's primarily negative.

could have gotten both by not doing the cliffhanger, and the feedback would have been way more positive.

Problem is, they lost viewers and potential viewers. They did not gain. Thats why it was incredibly stupid to pull.

Appears to have back fired. Not sure now many viewers they lost. Right now it is still fresh. We'll see. I call this the Jon Snow effect.

For one, interesting you call it "knee jerk reactions". Does that mean when fans praise the episode 2 minutes after it's off, those are "knee jerk reactions" too?

Secondly, it's not just fans. The reviews for the episode have been largely negative by critics. Even The Nerdist (Hardwick's baby) criticized it.

I do find some of the immediate praise over the top. Hence my stance on the mid season premiere that most raved about.

I doubt they lost a single potential viewer from this. There are people that will binge watch this season 2 weeks before the season premiere and jump right on.

Just look at this thread. People have been whining about the pacing of the show since the journey to Terminus. It's still the highest rated show by double the #2 ahow (which btw, happens to be a show talking about TWD) I guarantee the season opener has the highest ratings on cable in the fall (excluding NFL on ESPN).

Maybe, but the ratings have trended downwards. The ratings are lower than last season and are likely going to be lower than Season 4.

It's still big, but not as big as they used to be. We'll see how it affects things, because there have been fan complaints but nothing like this for this show.

Except with Snow, at least we got to see Snow get stabbed, and in the mythos of the show there is a way to bring him back to life.

Jon snow was done as it was in the books. This wasn't. This was a cheap attempt at getting the Jon Snow fandom reaction. Also, there is closure to Jon Snow from the actual screen. The theorists give that a separate life and that's on the fans. This was done by the actual staff which pisses people off. I feel TWD staff has poorly tried to copy the style of GOT. Jmo.

Agreed, there's a difference between having something tick you off (cliff hangers in general tend to do that) and turn you off. It's inherently frustrating to have to wait to find out what happened vs giving up on even wanting to know. Despite all the grousing I sincerely doubt anyone's going to quit on the show over the situation.

I'm in such a weird place with this show. I can't stop watching but I hate it. I don't want to complain much, because it's kind of ridiculous to watch and *****, but that's where I'm at. Out of curiosity, I just keep plugging away (watching while I play around on the internet and fast-forwarding entire scenes).

I think I've only made it this far on 1 show and gave up (True Blood). I am kinda just hoping TWD producers give up before I do. LOL

They absolutely did. The show Lost did not attract me due to people being upset about certain trends in writing. I also notice that TWD doesn't get as much viewership now as it did before so yes they are losing folks.

True Blood is a great comparison. I've seen a lot of people have similar comments to true bloods downfall.

So the guy who was trying to kill Carol....Morgan gets the drop on him....even though he's with a horse on concrete in his field of vision, close enough to shoot him with a pistol...it's just so f-ing lazy.

I was smh at how everyone got out of the RV at every roadblock.

Did they attempt to return to Alexandria? Thats what I would have done after the second roadblock. Get back, map out and plan the trip. Regroup as there is a real threat. They have a ton of antibiotics of there is an infection with Maggie.

(Was she having an early "birth" or a miscarriage? )

By Jon Snow effect I'm referring to the pissed off fans (mostly my wife) who said f this show. I get the difference in how quality of efforts on both shows.

And she will watch again. In a couple weeks time.

This.

The problem with the show compared to the GN is the show created stupid reasons for them all to leave Alexandria, and then for some reason they all got stupid, apparently forgetting everything they've learned surviving and letting themselves get trapped. It was really forced.

Basically they had to come up with a reason for them to get caught, and in doing so they made Rick look really stupid. Did he actually think after running into all those roadblocks he was going to be able to carry Maggie through the woods?

Every long running show bleeds viewers. People love new things then get bored over time.

What does that say for the rest of TV if TWD is losing viewers but still the top rated show by double?
