The Walking Dead

Dwight is interesting. Otherwise it was a pretty slow episode.

And I'm probably in the minority, but I'm finding Negan more annoying than terrifying.

I'm kinda with ya on that. He comes across as the over confident jock in the locker room that thinks he's hilarious but everyone else rolls their eyes at.

Story elements of the episode were good. It established the power structure of the Saviors. Set the stage for Dwight's inner conflict to, I'm assuming, spring Daryl. It just dragged. The long shots of Daryl in the cell or Dwight staring out into space..... This is definitely one of those episodes they could have combined with another story line.

I think a problem, for me at least, is while they are copying his character's speeches and such well, in the comic Negan is pretty big. He's stocky, more muscular, tall, and physically is intimidating. So it matches with his intimidating talk and personality.

JDM is pretty skinny. They try to make him look bigger by keeping the coat on all the time, and they cast an even skinnier guy in Dwight, but it jumps out at me how rail thin JDM seems to be.

Negan is like a drunk alpha male with dogs he likes to abuse and thinks it's funny, the way he says "that a boy!" And has everyone kneel is like having a dog cower in fear of your presence, just staying around to eat and stay dry.

I'm sure there will be an episode dedicated to Negan, he was probably a cool calm mild mannered man before the turn.

Negan basically has the three communities in cages like you would have animals that work for you, Hilltop, Alexandria and the Kingdom. I'm sure there's more we haven't seen yet the way Dwight said What Megan doesn't own he will own. Like his territory is growing quickly, Its going to be hard to run in the south without reliable fuel sources and sustainable nutrition you can carry with you.

This is a tv show where characters are in the zombie apocalypse, it's going to be hard for your average body builder to eat enough and workout enough to maintain a swole physique, goes well with the story line, also eating Walker fed hogs may take its toll on ya.

I said it before... The Governor was the shlt, Negan is a clown. Someone just needs to grow some balls and shoot Negan in the face.

Seriously? Negan makes the Governor look like a good guy. He was a great villain don't get me wrong but Negan is just a pure a** hole monster who thinks killing innocent people is funny.

Not saying he has to be a body builder; but if they are going to copy the comic character as much as they have maybe they should have had JDM gain some weight or cast a bigger person who is naturally stockier.

It's 100x better than the tv show

Except for John Grisham products, that's usually the norm. Since I don't read the comic books the show isn't this horrible disappointment that it is to some...adds to the viewing experience. :)

You should go back and read up until the death of the gov. It's pretty brutal

I'm aware of some of the plotlines. No doubt I'd be a fan and understand why the readers feel the show fails in comparison. It's why I don't.

Meh..I love the SoIaA novels and the GOT show, though I read the novels long before the show started. Also loved the LOTR novels and movies both. If it's done well you can satisfy fans. Evidently TWD doesn't do a good job of it.

I like the show...so why mess it up? :)

My analogy:

Hilary is The Governor. Appears to represent something good and normal at first. But behind the scenes, he is bat**** crazy and a true menace to his own society.

Trump is Rick. He thinks that he is the answer. He believes that He is the best. But his ego gets him in trouble and gets his followers killed. He is a survivor, often by dumb luck more than skill.

:)

I'll say this much, Negan is goal oriented. Other than killing the initial "proving a point" victim, just follow the rules and you can even live well.
He's a sociopath, the Governor was a psychopath.
Nothing Rick offered would have saved anyone the Governor killed. He killed all those that refused to stay and fight and tried to kill Merle (originally) for failing to kill someone else.
No ironing anyone's face, just death.
Even his other former right hand man.

So I'll agree in the essence of - be useful to Negan, fairly assured life. Sometimes, even a good life.
The only thing guaranteed with the Governor was your eventual death.
I guess it is a little less intimidating knowing you could kiss ass and stay alive the insanity of the Governor.

Heck, the Governor would have seen Carl's arm chopped off, killed the rest of the group, then still killed Carl a few weeks later.

WTF?

I kept thinking that the image would start doing something...

Psshhh! You just wanted to listen to the song. :)

Good breakdowns of both.

Also for me, acting wise I think David Morrissey better sold me on the villain part than Jeffrey Dean Morgan. I agree with VSF in that there is something annoying about Negan.

I've been reading the comics at work and there are definitely things I like better about both. The comics have more of a video game feel to me but the story is still good. Lot of everyone having sex with everyone and weird drama. I still stand by the statement that the show would be better off with 12 episode seasons.
