The Walking Dead

My question is how in the world can they pull off a CGI tiger like that and not a deer?

I'm guessing they put all their budget into Shiva. I know CGI is very expensive for this kind of show. The deer only had like 10 seconds of screen time. Guess the producers didn't give a crap.

They should of just rendered the deer on MS paint and trotted him out on screen...lol

Because she was doing Negan's bidding and Negan didn't want Rick dead.

Even when he had them, he was going to kill only Carl. I'm sure that was his order.

I thought that was pretty obvious Negan wanted Rick alive.

The real question is why didn't Michonne shoot the chick as soon as she saw her pointing the gun at Rick.

Leg? I thought she shot him in the lovehandle.

Looks like I'm the oddball, but I was disappointed with this episode. As someone mentioned earlier it was stupid for rick to round up a bunch of guns and hand them to people he didn't know. The junkyard people are just dumb anyway. The zombie apocalypse has given rise to junkyard larpers living out their fantasies.

Protected characters are protected. It really kills any sense of drama when you know nobody important is going to die. Just a bunch of redshirts like normal. Sure Sasha died but that was expected with her having a lead on a different show. Would they have killed her off if she didn't have another show? Who knows.

Negan still talks too much. His big monologues make me want to fast forward through them. It would be more entertaining for me if he shut up and actually did what he went goes on about.

Considering the season started with two major deaths and ended with another, I'd say they filled a quota on the season.

If "important" characters died as often as some fans wanted, the show would have ended 2-3 seasons ago.

I just don't get the garbage people. Why would Rick strike a deal with a bunch of deranged people living in a dump?
Much less turnover a bunch of weapons.

The Tiger wouldn't know who to maul. Ridiculous, but comic world doesn't always translate to TV.

Because Rick is a complete idiot. If someone lived in a junkyard, spoke half baked english, and proceeded to tell me, "we take, we don't bother", I wouldn't give them the time of day.

Heath is on 24 Legacy but he's still alive in the show.

I don't think Rick ever fully trusted the junkyard people, he was just desperate. Even with those wackos he was still outnumbered by Negan.

He is still outnumber by a yuge margin, so I don't know how they're going to pull this one off.

Then don't write him into that situation. That's why the show is so bad now. Poor lazy writing. I watched maybe 3 episodes this season and it's easily the worst yet.

I will say part of why I thought the finale was good is because I'm comparing it to the rest of this season, which I found to be overall pretty bad. Plus I thought it was much better than last year's finale, since they at least didn't leave it on a huge cliffhanger.

I'd have hope for next season but Gimple just drags stuff out way too much.

Write him into what situation? It was clear Negan wanted him alive and told Janis not to kill him.

I agree with this but it would have been nice if they afforded the audience a little context to that end; even a split second glance from Janis to Negan that conveyed "should I?" "no".

No context at all gives the scene a bad look; like not shooting Rick Grimes because he's Rick Grimes!

Stop falling for it man.

I would say the entire season was the context. Negan has made it pretty clear that those who cross him get punished by watching the ones they care about die. It's how how he breaks them.

Before she shot him she told him to "get down". At that point you knew she wasn't going to kill him. When he resisted she fired a non leathal shot.

Also, looking back on the carnival episode, the fake Rick death, which I said was for Michonne not the audience, led to their chat about potentially losing each other in the coming battle. That was called back on when Negan tried to imply Michonne just died. Earlier in the season that would have broken Rick again but this time he nutted up and said basically spat in Negan's face.

I'm not going to pretend this is the best written show on television but this constant drum beat of "lazy writing" is old. They actually go to pretty great lengths to set up some things.

well, the drum beat has some metrics to back it up. Still love the show, and this finale was strong, but TWD writers need to sharpen their pencils for next season. (i'm optimistic they will)

Sure the writing has its holes but it always has since the beginning.

The show has kinda backed itself into a corner, and it did this a few seasons back, in the early seasons it was no holds barred, outside of Rick anyone seemed expendable. As the series went along it needed a core group of characters to keep the audience interested. At the same time they needed to add new characters, develope them enough to care about so when they inevitably killed them off it had more weight. So now we have this fairly large cast who all need some screen time. To accomplish that it also slows down the overall plot.

As far as ratings go, it definitely bled some viewers this year. A few in this thread have stated as much. However it's still the top rated show on cable and if you look across the cable landscape EVERYTHING has taken quite a hit this year. Even the NFL. I think this was a tipping point year for cord cutters.

I know the writers have to introduce new characters to keep the audience interested but I wish they didn't write the "Scavengers" into the show. I found them weird and annoying more than anything. I also thought they made it too obvious that Jadis was going to turn on Rick by the way she was acting. She basically got Rick to do her dirty work by getting them all those guns. I know Rick was desperate but that's no excuse to trust those mindless freaks in the junk yard.

Nah, I realize it's not a great show anymore, but since it still gets great ratings there isn't much incentive to change. But I'm not to hate watch status either, because it's still better than many shows.

I surprised myself a little, thought i would cave and watch. Haven't even considered it.

I still think part of the problem is over-saturation. They shouldn't have gone to 16 episodes because the way they write the show, they don't have enough material for that. 13 episodes was plenty.

I agree with this too.

Perhaps the genre is running its course as well.

yup, mass appeal ruins everything it touches. Someone needs to steal the zombie genre back an make something raw and badass.

Not just 16 episodes but Fear the Walking Dead will be starting not long after again.

Too much zombie TV.

This is a completely pointless argument. 3 episodes less would not have made this season any better than it was. It would have taken "some" fluff out but we still would have been left with 8 uninteresting episodes and 5 good ones.
The problem with this show is that it got away from it's small core group and added a bunch of other characters, most of which none of us care about. I get that these things played out in the comics but it seriously could have been handled much better than this. They could have told the story without diluting what made the show really good. With their writing they took the life out of the greatest characters the show has had since the beginning and they drug it out far too long. They crippled Morgan, and Carol, Daryl you pretty much hardly ever see him really do anything anymore. I don't blame that on him, I blame that on the writers. Let's be real, other than helping out in that finale Carol literally did nothing for an entire season. That's a complete waste of a great character and a resource.
