The Weightlifters Thread

My whole life I've been waiting for an employee to tell somebody to rack their weights....

I've seen one guy get the boot for dropping the barbell from above his head on the regular floor on clean and press. Only time I've ever seen an employee of a gym get after somebody who was being an ass

Where's all the girls in this thread? Good Lord, I really am one of the guys. People keep telling me that. Just call me Brittney G, I guess.

I don't do heavy though, just strength training that's appropriate with lots of reps. But I still learn reading your conversations.

Most girls I know wouldn't consider themselves weightlifters

The owner of my gym has gotten on to me a few times while I deadlift.. I wasn't being stupid, but I find it hard to set 400+ lbs down quietly..

On another note I just had a really good shoulder workout and finished with 20 minutes of HIIT. A minute walking on 3.0 and 90 secs on 8.0. Went well except shin splints started bothering me towards the end. Hips, knees and ankles pretty much always hurt since my time in the Marines. I feel old sometimes haha.

Yeah, shouldn't be hard to set 135 down in a decent manner and not act like a jackass. I set my weight down normally, but heavy deadlifts are going to make a little noise. The owner should have a deadlift station with some mats if he is that worried about noise.

I wish we had a deadlift station soo. We have guys who think they are bad ass dropping 225 from the top. I try to control the weight I use on the way down but like you said you will still make noise.

The worst. I've finally almost conquered mine. I refuse to slow down for some weak ass shin splints. Eventually they just gave up and quit bothering me.

In fact, now that I've conditioned my lower legs, I may start doing insanity again to condition for basketball.

Usually I just jog a slow 3 miles on the treadmill for my cardio, once a week. Put in some time this winter running intervals on the treadmill instead. I was blazing around the bases in our first softball games yesterday. I probably haven't been that fast in like 8 years or so. Feels pretty good.

I'm hoping mine will eventually. I have noticed that when I'm at a higher speed on the treadmill they don't bother me as much, so maybe the stride slower speeds make me take has something to do with it. It's warming up too so I can start running outside, I hate the treadmill.

Either way, it's all mental. Even if they don't stop I can deal with a little pain for a few minutes.

Maybe now, but I'd try to get rid of them at least a little. Mine got so bad last year that I literally couldn't walk and had to completely give up basketball.

Try to adopt a running style that avoids heel strikes. Run on the balls of your feet. It can feel awkward at first, but it's much more natural.

Also, whenever I have shin splints, I move all running to the ellipticals. Yeah, it's lame, but it will save your lower legs from further injury.

Back in high school I thought I was having shin splints... I ignored them until I couldn't any longer. went to the doc and he xrayed. they ended up being stress fractures - one in each leg. because I went so long, they didn't heal properly so I've got a big knot on my bone in each leg. they can get pretty sore.

anyway, i'd be careful and not push it

Yeah, I worry about that gballs.

On my new BS high deductible health plan, I can't afford to go to the doc just for shin splints, though

  le sadz

It's not anymore. Now my lower legs are just sore for a day or so after I play bball. They used to be sore after leg workouts, and were sore for up to a week after bball.

I feel like as long as I don't go overboard, they should go away completely within a month, because my lower legs are getting stronger.

Stress fractures are a very real possibility for me. I had them in my feet more than once in the Marines, and when i run or do calf work I have these little knots that I can push down on and they feel almost like a bubble. I may need to have them checked out.

Phew. Went up to the full dose of OEP today and had one crazy ass workout. I had almost too much energy. Coulda hurt myself, lol.

Started out as legs day, but since I missed yesterday and don't like working out on Fridays, I worked in arms too. While I was doing dips, I figured what they heck, it's been since Monday since I did chest, so I did bench and incline bench. Then I decided since I already felt like I was going to pass out, I should run a mile and a half. So it wound up being a full body workout, except at the intensity of each of my individual workouts.

Hey cc, I don't know what their problem is in the zone. I don't judge. I'm just curious, what does the cc stand for?
