Not really weight lifting but I'm about to start Insanity with some people from work.

Anyone completed it? Advice? Warnings?

My dad has been doing it for about a year now. It has worked wonders for him as far as weight loss goes. He's lost a total of 50 lbs. I'll tell you the same thing I told him, just do what you can do at first and then work your way up. As long as you are getting results from the workouts and diet, and stick with what they tell you...you will be fine.

Like Otter said, Shaun T will urge you to push yourself, but if you're not an athlete, start slow.

I lift, and consider myself in good shape, but Insanity gave me terrible shin splints.

I want to punch people who wear ear buds, in the gym, right in the face sometimes.

My gym has played purple rain on multiple occasions, I just can't be motivated to lift to that.

I wear headphones, but also try to stay conscious of those around me as well.

Agreed! My gym plays awful songs. On another note, guy asked me to spot him this morning on squats. He was doing 405, dude FN quarter repped the **** out of it, if that. It was pathetic.

There's apparently a lot of that going on these days, especially 1/2 rep and 3/4 rep on bench, and incline.

What's 1/2 rep? When I'm benching, any more than a 90* bend at the elbow and my left shoulder gives out, even on the first rep.

Realistically with bench, I recognize that touching your chest with the bar is considered a full rep but you're not getting any extra out of the lift by going down that far.

Exactly you're getting less. Maybe half squat has a bad knee.

I just bought an elliptical. Haven't exercised in months. Should I start out with this thing or start lifting? I want to get swole, but I want to be in shape as well.

I always wear my ear buds, that guy you are talking about is just a dbag.

I workout in these bad boys:

I wear ear buds partly because I don't want people to talk to me. I still got gym etiquette coming out my ears, all you have to do is pay attention to those around you.
