The Weightlifters Thread

Honestly I'm not sure what it was around the time that I started this past go around. Like I said I was too late in the game before deciding that I was going to do it. If I had to guess I was probably around 15% at the time that I started. I believe I might let myself get up to around 20% the next time. I've heard that is about average for most.

How long before a contest do you plan to start cutting?

16 weeks.

Thanks for the responses...one more question. How do you go about cutting?

Do you slowly lower calories? I so, are you mainly cutting protein, fat, or carbs?

Do you increase reps when cutting? And I'll take any other advice you have on cutting. Thanks man.

The first step, and most important, is putting together a solid diet and sticking with it. Get use to lots of fish, chicken, and sweet potatoes. Protein is fine. Just cut down on fats and sugars. When I say cut down I mean way down. Keep track of your daily macro count and set yourself up with a good macro ratio. Next is set a goal for what weight you wish to be at, or until you are happy with the way you look. You also need to keep up with your carb intake. It depends on what you are wanting to do as far as if you are wanting to compete or if you wish to just look good. If you are wanting to compete...it gets expensive. You will spend a lot of time meal preping. Which is good because it keeps you busy, and gives you the ability to not feel tempted to go out and eat junk food with friends. Go hang out with them, but you can eat before and after. 6 -7 meals a day. Lots of water. Invest in food containers, and food measuring scales. If you wish to just look good you can still do all of that, but mainly just have a good macro ratio, and you'll be fine. Diet is the hard part. As far as the gym goes...yes high reps, and light weight. Increase cardio to 30 min in the morning, and 30-45 min post workout. Also with the diet...stick with whole foods. Chicken, fish, sweet potatoes, asparagus, spinach leaves with balsamic vinegar. As far as fruits go...yes they are good for you, but I was told to stay away. So I did, and from the results I believe what they said. You can have a cheat meal once a week. But I was told the rule of thumb was you only had an hour window to eat whatever. My cheat meal was normally on a Saturday. So it made hanging with friends more doable. It helps your body not get use to eating clean, but it also keeps you from going crazy. I could go on about dieting, but the best thing to do if you are serious about it is to find a trainer that specializes in training bodybuilders, and for him to be a nutritionist as well. I know a guy and his rate Iis fare. $40 for posing lessons a session, and $100 a month for nutrition. But overall that's a base diet for you. A nutritionist will be more specific as far as controlling your carbs and stuff. Meal plans, and so on. Like how many ounces of what in each meal, ect. Plus it's an extra eye for how you look.

Otter, do you know Kenny Taylor? I am not sure if he is still competing but he was couple years back and looks like yall would be in the same class...we are good friends and worked out with together thru the years...I am more powerlifting...since moving to SC almost 3 yrs ago I have lost touch with him...

IIIIIII'MMMMMMMMMM BBBBBAAAAAAAAACCCCCKKKKKK...after the knee injury, then the car wreck and then the Bells Palsy incident I am back to lifting and cardio to lose about 20lbs then start my powerlifting...I got cleared by the Dr to resume, this was from my wreck, so the insurance side cant hold anything against me. I haven't been able to consistently lift anything heavy or really anything since February when I dislocated my knee and tore my meniscus...I gained up to about 315 but have lost down to 305 and need to get to 285 to begin my powerlifting...shouldn't take but about 2months at most...then I begin my journey for the 2000lb club...Squat, dead lift and bench...I am pretty confident I can get btw 500-525 on the bench and close to 750 on the squat if not more...but the dead lift will be what decides my fate...cant wait to start though...I miss the heavy poundage and the ego that comes with it...lol

If I add up all the weight I lift in one session, including each rep, I'm not sure its 2000 lbs.

Nice.

Apologies if this has been discussed already.

Anybody have any experience with natural testosterone boosters, available online or at nutrition stores without a prescription? I'm looking into it, and want to believe it, but it seems like a gimmick. If it really does work I might try it, but curious as to anybody else's experience with it.

I hear they make you drive the ball 450 yards with a smooth, "keep it in the fairway" swing.

well, as I am writing this, I still don't believe it...but here it goes...most of you know my situation this year, been very frustrating from the dislocated kneecap and torn meniscus to the car wreck. I have been sidelined for like 8 months. I started back last month and was getting really into it when I started experiencing breathing problems. I would wake straight up out of a deep sleep and go into a panic bc I couldn't breathe...that started about 3 weeks ago. Then last week my legs started swelling and I started putting on weight. Gained 18 pounds in 2 weeks, from 305 to 323, and couldn't explain it. So Wednesday night at work my right leg swelled up completely to the point where you could not tell my ankle from my calf...and I have decent size calves...so I go to the walk in clinic and see a DR. I tell her my symptoms and she immediately tells me to leave and go to the ER...she, along with the ER nurses and DR when I get there, believe I am having Congestive Heart Failure...I am only 36...so they run test after test and even do a dye test for blood clots...luckily, after 8 hrs, nothing found and they said my Heart looked good...BUT...they cannot figure out why I am having such a hard time breathing, just walking to the bathroom and I am completely out of breath, or why I am retaining fluids and swelling so severely in my extremities...I have to see a Dr about my Kidneys tomorrow and they also want me to schedule a sleep Apnea test...this year has sucked and I am usually a positive person but I am getting really frustrated and upset...I ask that yall say a little prayer for me that I will be able to find the cause for this and hopefully it is not too severe...thanks...LIFT HARD

The finals were awesome last night. Kai and Phil both looked incredible and Kai was really going after him. They were ****-talking and stuff, it was awesome. Kai was huge, it could have gone either way, but Heath has the perfect balance of roundness and definition + his waste is smaller so he probably deserved the win.

I have never seen the Olympia, so big ups to bodybuilding.com for broadcasting it.

And the rest of the top 5. Really solid competition this year.
