The Weightlifters Thread

Anyone having gaining size with high reps for squats?

In my opinion, higher reps (of heavy weight) is better for developing your legs than you would do for any muscle group in your upper body. It just seems the muscle groups in your legs are so big that you can't begin to completely engage all of them until you get in the higher rep ranges (15-20). Drop sets are the best for this, IMO.

I'm pretty sure a dude at my gym yesterday was possessed by satan. Screaming like Linda Blair during his workout. I wanted to punch him in the face.

Tell him if he keeps screaming, you're going to take him to the shower and give him something to scream about.

Agreed. I mainly use them though to judge progress. I've normally found them to be accurate within 5lbs, and I feel like taking a day off to max is a wasted day.

If you use the Westside Barbell Conjugate, then every Heavy upper/lower body day is a max effort day. You just do more sets of it and then switch to a different bar every week or every other week. By doing that simple thing, you set new maxes and your body never gets accustomed...it's great and it's a *****...but it's mainly for power lifters...I have definitely added size but it's a lot of bulk...

i start with a warm up then a max and then just still complete a workout. doesnt really set me too far behind usually

How I feel after my lunch workout...it had been months and months...

I have 14 total days til my Powerlifting competition...9 workout days left...sorta getting nervous and excited at same time.

here are my updated projections...

Squats-625-700

Bench-475-500

Deadlift-405-475

The first number is what I know I can get. anything after that is cake.

My Deadlift is horrible right now. I am having trouble with my left hand grip holding onto the bar and my technique is not up to par.

Did a practice run on the Bench tonight with my trainer. He would say the commands, start, lift and rack...I did a 1 sec pause on chest before lift. I ended at 485lbs with pause. I may have gotten 490 but it would have been a struggle. I started at 405, then 435, then 455, then 475 and finally 485. I only get 3 lifts in the comp but I was more or less seeing where we wanted to start. Feeling PUMPED.

Good job crush..good luck in the competition.

Didn't you say the other day you were 5'10 300+?

yeah I am at 320 right now, I know it sounds fat, but I am very tight...lol...I do have a belly but it is not flabby and I have been lifting for years but never for a competition.

I wanted to be at 307 or less, weight class is 275-307 then 308+, but I only had 10 weeks to start with and I was so focused on learning the new techniques and lifting that I didn't want to have to diet and do that at same time. Also, being my first meet, I want to go in feeling good and not drained from trying to lose weight...and I LOVE TO EAT :p

P u s s y imo.

Obviously kidding.

I get that a lot lol...that and because my name is Nick, my nickname at work is either NO Neck or just Neck...lol

Also, excuse my manners, Thank you, I appreciate the support.

If I do well enough to get sponsored by a certain company, not naming them just yet, then I will try and get an UT themed singlet to wear...

My trainer is in big with this company and used to compete. I may get to go to Donnie Thompson's gym next week to train for a day, which would be awesome. If you don't know who Donnie Thompson is, YouTube Donnie Thompson and click on World Record 1260lb squat, My trainer is the guy in the blue polo and Khaki shorts with the hat on the right side front, him and Donnie are good friends and former training partners...Donnie has recently done over 1300lbs on Squat and totaled over 3000 for a comp in the Bench/DLift/Squat.

I really appreciate my trainer and the two guys I work out with...BUT...they are not power lifters and they only show up on Chest Day...every leg day I am by myself, except for trainer (sometimes not even him if he has to deal with Ex wife problems), and it is very hard to get motivated...it would be awesome if I had at least two other guys who are competing to lift with...frustrating...
