The Weightlifters Thread

I really appreciate my trainer and the two guys I work out with...BUT...they are not power lifters and they only show up on Chest Day...every leg day I am by myself, except for trainer (sometimes not even him if he has to deal with Ex wife problems), and it is very hard to get motivated...it would be awesome if I had at least two other guys who are competing to lift with...frustrating...

i hear ya there. I work out by myself right now.

My fiance and i usually work out together, but we are in different cities for graduate school, so its just me now

Gentlemen, I set a PR tonight on Dead Lift, yes the one exercise that is giving me fits and all my trainer did was pull my legs in a little (I am a Sumo Dead Lifter bc of my size and shorter arms) to a Russian style Sumo...also, having him there and wanting to impress him gave me some motivation...

When I got there he wasn't there yet but one of my partners was and him and I started at 135 adding a quarter then a plate each set...so 135, 185, 225 so forth so on...he quit at 275 bc he doesn't like going heavy and has never really done DL's before. I kept on going. I got up to 405, my PR (I know horrible) and my trainer showed up, ex wife was working and had to wait til she got off...so he tells me to lift and I did...he wasn't happy...he was like "I don't even know where to begin, that was horrible (technique), but that tells me your strong bc it was so bad" lol...so he had me set up and that is when he moved my legs in a little, still sumo tho...and bam...I went to 435, then 455 then 465 and he made me stop...I still had more left but he didn't want me to miss. I felt like I could have done 500 and I am still SUPER PUMPED ABOUT IT...my goal of a 1600lb total is within reach now.

Congrats, man

thanks man, I know it sounds like bragging, but I am really not...I am just excited bc I was sooooooo worried about my DL at the meet next weekend. Plus, I feel like yall sorta hold me accountable bc I have started putting my stuff up here and I want to rep TN as best as I can...

Thanks bro....are you going to enter that one near you?

Strained my pec and took a few weeks off. I'm also not going to make weight at 185 like I wanted. I think I'll drive down and watch, see what I need to be competitive.

I'm cutting right now and down to 198

I appreciate that

Just got confirmation, going to train with Mr. Donnie Thompson tomorrow...Squats and Dead Lifts...this will be nerve wracking lol...he literally Squats TWICE as much as me and I can do 600lbs lol

Had an odd experience bench pressing today. I went heavy for the first time in a while and was doing a set of 4-5 with 315. When I finished and started the backward motion to put the bar back up, I felt a severe pain in my shoulder. A few seconds later it was numb and sorta tingling.

I had a similar experience only once before. I was using a power rack and by the design of it, the hooks that hold the bar were turned the wrong way. So to break it, you had to move the weight back as opposed to forward.

Anyway, does anyone know what this could be and what I can do to prevent it?

I thought I warmed up well. I did 45x8, 95x8, 135x8, 185x8, 225x6, and 300x5 before I jumped under 315.

Does it hurt when you do this

I tried the test, no pain there.

That's a test for impingement, which is common with bench press. My next thought would be a rotator cuff issue (strain or something). I don't really have a quick test for that unfortunately.

Also important to note that the test not hurting isn't a 100% sign it's not impingement.

I tried a few different motions to see what hurt. I can't put my arm behind my back as if I were being handcuffed without severe pain. I also can't hold my arm at 90 degrees and rotated inside like the impingement test and then rotate my arm up without severe pain.

that sounds like when I tore my Labrum...I could do anything underhanded but as soon as I raised my arm up to a 90 degree angle and try to move it, pain...
