The Weightlifters Thread

what was so bad about the first month??

Haha. It was partly on me, and partly on her.

We didn't live together when we dated, but she was over all the time...which kind of made her my guest...which meant I couldn't just read a book when she was there...I had to entertain her.

I was banking on that changing when we got married, but she was so used to that level of attention, the adjustment made her feel like something had changed in me, or whatever. She had just changed birth control and got really needy. I started finding excuses to stay at work until 7.

Needless to say, it took a month for us to talk it out. She changed birth control, and it's been easy ever since.

I don't know how I forgot about this thread but I did. My poverty status gym just got new weights, dumbbells, power racks, and a new cable system.

This week was a PR week for the program I'm on. I've slightly tweaked Wendler's 5/3/1 program by adding more volume to the big 4 lifts.

Squat = Training Max (315) // I managed to hit 305 for 3, 315 for 1, and failed on 335
OHP = Training Max (155) // 165 x 1
Sumo Deadlift = Training Max (350) // 405 x 1

My legs were extremely weak earlier this year. I've managed to add 20 lbs to my squat (while correcting my form and adding proper depth) and 90 pounds to my sumo deadlift.

I competed yesterday in Columbia, SC at The Big South Powerlifting and Bench Press Contest and finished 2nd Overall, lost to a Pro (I am an amateur), and finished first in the SHW Raw Amateur Division.

I was only going to enter the. Bench Press bc I wasn't happy with my Squats, but about 3 weeks ago I hit 602 without wraps and thought dang, that's the most ever for me so I changed to Full Power. Glad I did...I hit 675 for a 70lb PR and 550 on Dead Lifts for a 35lb PR...but I was disappointed with my Bench bc I missed 505 lbs twice and should have gotten it easily. I opened with 490 and it felt light but my triceps gave out near top on the first attempt of 505 and the second was a complete disaster.

I finished with a 1715lb total for a 105lb improvement from my last meet.

I will be competing on November 15 in Gatlinburg at the SPF Record Breakers contest and will be shooting for a 1800 pound total.

I could've squatted over 700 yesterday but I didn't realize it until after I did the 675, one of the judges accused me of sandbagging lol...he was just giving me a hard time. I definitely can get 505 to 515 on Bench press with a little more training on triceps and back and 600 may be in my future on Dead Lifts...I was super excited about the 550.

I used this contest as a measuring stick for Gatlinburg bc I have family and friends coming to watch and I want to impress them.

If any of y'all can come and watch some, it's at the Glenstone Lodge and there are a 100 competitors, going to be an awesome day of lifting weight.

Also, I AM VERY SORE LOL...meet started at 10 and I left at 950 pm and drive an hr straight to work last night. VERY ROUGH NIGHT.

Congrats OrangeCrush! Those are extremely impressive numbers! It would be a blast to witness your next comp but I am 8 hours away from Gatlinburg. Keep us updated on your progress.

Do you use steroids?

I have before, but it has been at least 3 years since I did...but as for your question, NO I am currently clean. I use Muscle Pharm products plus straight creatine. I want to try for a world record drug tested bench press.

I weighed in at 329.7lbs, so I am not small lol.

Don't you think you should dream bigger than that? LOL

I'm impressed man. Be safe and keep up the good work.

I have a very good friend who I started lifting with 2 years ago. He weighed 404 lbs at the time. He had no idea what he was doing, and so I showed him the ropes. He never got below 380, which really surprised me and then he moved to Santa Fe. I lost all hope, doubting he would have good habits. We talked today, and he's down to 350 and working out regularly. He asked me for learning resources, and is pretty excited/motivated.

Pretty happy about it.

Some Chris Lofton ish right there.

Everybody responds differently to the various treatments, but my wife couldn't even hold a desk job. She was in bed probably 18+ hours a day for the first 3 months, and the last 3 months we kind of figured out how to manage it better and she was more active, but definitely not doing exercise of any kind.

Well gentlemen, yesterday was my Powerlifting Contest in Gatlinburg, The SPF Record Breakers...I improved from my meet in October but I am disappointed bc I didn't get the total I wanted due to a judges bad decision on my Squat Depth. I will post all 3 of my Squats and let y'all judge, but IMO and virtually everyone else there except the 2 judges, when their opinion is all that matters, knew I was low enough. It cost me at least 50 pounds, 25 on the squat and 25 on DL(I went for a higher amount bc I was trying to make up for the missed squat). Here are my official totals

Squat...700lbs (2 times :))
Bench...490lbs (AGAIN ?!*@)
Dead Lift...560lbs (got it easy and could've pulled 585 for the 1800lb total but the missed Squat, so I went for 610 and missed)

Total...1750lbs

I can tell you didn't go quite as deep on your first video relative to your second, but it still looked good to me. I don't know anything about their rules, though. I would give you credit :)

Very impressive overall, though. You are a very large man. I wouldn't pick a fight with you.

Oops, I thought I had put all 3 lifts up...my opener at 650 lbs was higher than my way attempt at 700lbs and it was called good...

I can't believe I am disappointed about only getting a 700lb Squat, but I AM. :(

I started doing the reverse pyramids on my main lifts and love it. Guys i got really hype tonight. I got 4 plates on deadlift 5 times after eating on a deficit for over a month. Might have gotten 6 but deadlift is the one lift i wont risk it on. At 181lbs right now.

Anyway wanting to get below 10 percent body fat. Currently at 12ish. Eating at a couple hundred deficit and lifting heavy. Any tips?
