There's not a penalty to harsh for PSU!

He was a GA. But he went three more years before getting a full time gig. If you want to keep someone quiet, you can't leave someone in a menial position until something "becomes available." You want someone to stay quiet, you get someone a gig right now. Or you pay someone a ton of money under the table to keep quiet, and then get him a job when something comes open. Unfortunately, it wouldn't shock me if the latter occurred.

I've got a feeling this is what happened too.

I wish every discussion was handled as well as this one. Kudos gentlemen on stating your points with restraint and class.

Obviously the subject matter is something that all of us feel a great deal of emotion about. You've done a good job discussing it. And you have this Vols fan's thanks.

De Nada.

Penn State fans and trustees remain in denial. The statue of Joe Pa stays..."for now". The logic being that "Joe Pa did a lot more good than he did bad."

That's crap. Paterno covered up for, and thus enabled, a serial pedophile. His actions were criminal, and his name and legacy are now s**t. In my book, he can stand beside Sandusky, in hell, for eternity.

Joe Pa made his choice. He, or on this case his legacy, has to deal with it. Personally, I regret that he passed away. I would have enjoyed seeing him being made to answer for his actions, and face the victims that could have been spared the horrors they endured if Joe Pa had managed to find one ounce of the character that everyone seems to think he was so full of.

Joe Pa's statue is a monument to pedophiles, and those who enable them. Great idea to leave it up...for now.

I'm sure none of Sandusky's victims will object.

It feels almost surreal how out of touch the PSU people sound when talking about this. Jeremy Schaap has a segment on ESPN that makes the BoT look even worse.

Its hard to not be emotional about this, its so horrific that I can barely watch the tv without feeling knots in my stomach. I dont want the NCAA to get involved, but it is beyond obvious that PSU thinks it should just move on and I just dont see any way that the football program doesnt deserve some institutional punishment.

Today on Meet the Press, Bob Costas said that in his opinion PSU should disband their football program for at least a year and if they don't then the NCAA should give them the death penalty. In his opinion it will happen one way or another.

I could live with that.

I'd hate to be working for PSU and trying to support my wife and kids, then be unemployed for something that had nothing to do with me and the others that have to find jobs or uproot their families.

Saw the Costas interview. He's in line with most other journalists I've seen since the Freeh report calling for the death penalty for Penn State football. I understand the reasoning for it, but whether or not you want to see the program shut down for the time being, everybody I've seen on TV that actually has working knowledge of how the NCAA operates and makes these sorts of decisions has said that they're not aware of how the NCAA can do that. If Penn State doesn't play football in the fall, it will be of their own choice.

By the time the law suits are thru, they'll have to sell Joes statue just to keep the lights on.

I think this guy gives good advice to Penn State on what they need to do NOW:

Penn State: Here are 10 steps to recovery

I think setting up the Foundation indicated in #5 with a large donation (14 years of profit they made from their football program) would satisfy me enough to back away from shutting the football program down.

I personally think NCAA vacate all Paternos wins from point he became aware of deal and did nothing about it.
