The judicial system did it's job. Why can't you people separate your emotions from what's within the legalities?

And WTF is wrong with what I proposed? No one want to take a high road on this and try to make a positive out of this situation, or all we all still at the "burn it to the ground" stage?

centers to raise community awareness? participating in outreach programs? setting up counseling support systems? - too vague, too easy to set up nonsense which doesn't help anyone. You want to help other people, then Penn State must pay money (and a lot) to institutions completely independent of the university.

Oh no no no, they'll be just like Havard and Yale and Columbia and Brown......

Is it not a Universities first and foremost responsibility to educate or is it to insure that they have a powerful athletic program so that fans can hold our their chest?

I'm sure there are civil suits coming soon. I actually do get 07's point though. I'm not sure the NCAA can do much of anything.

Since the president and vice-president were deemed culpable, why isn't the discussion to shut down the University or AD? Why stop with football penalties?

Ftr, TX is doing a fine job of capturing my thoughts on this.

You raise a good point. This really isn't a football matter as much as a school matter. The people that really need to be stepping in aren't the NCAA it's the Pennsylvania state government.

Civil suits help the specific victims. 07's question was what the university could do to help others. I say yes, they need to do that but it cannot be self instituted and self run, it needs to be paid to the people who already are trying to do so.

Can the NCAA do anything? I don't know. Should the NCAA do anything? If they absolve themselves completely, it destroys what little external credibility they have now.

I would argue that it had everything to do with the Football program

If Sandusky would have been a janitor, would they have protected him then?

Let the record show however that I am more of an advocate if rising from the ashes to better a society than I am wallering in a lingering state of desolation all the while counting down the seconds until things can finally start to attempt to get back to normal.

Act now. Their first step towards their future after all this, will determine the legacy of that University.

Ive got news for you. There is no high road in this situation and Wtf is wrong is that the offense was so egregious and systemic they shouldn't get to self impose anything.

You're exactly right. Anyone saying different should really check themselves.

You're a good man. Your last sentence is spot on. The University and the State of Pennsylvania will determine their legacy.

What does it do for the victims and families if you take the football program down?

It is the sacrificial lamb. It is to make sure that other institutions understand that the athletic departments are not the be all/end all. That they are not gods that can exonerate themselves from a moral and ethical responsibility to do whats right because they bring in millions of dollars and entertain the masses.

I'm having a hard time feeling like the victims wouldn't be victimized further from the fall out of something like that. Start with punishment for every individual involved and go from there.

I don't think other institutions need this lesson.

Makes the" burn em at the stake" crowd feel warm and fuzzy and offers them a sense of accomplishment.

I am sure all of us wish this never happened. Stop acting like people are glad this happened to get one over on Paterno and Penn State.

Victimized how?
