Haven’t found the exact problem yet but I’m still on it. It’s going to be something fairly simple to fix once the problems found. You being 300 miles away makes it a little difficult to meter test a couple things that would possibly have you fixed.
I said earlier your problem is common. After looking into that deeper, it is on Kenmore’s with the older electrical dial timers. You have an electronic control board with a digital timer & display so that eliminates you.
3 things I’ve found so far:
1) “START” switch on control panel could be stuck engaged. It’s a spring loaded switch, so that can happen. It should spring back after it’s pressed & released. You can check this.
2) The door switch. It operates the light & is wired into the control panel to shut the dryer off when the door is open. I’ll try to find something on this for a manual test vs a meter one.
3) This a copy & paste & will cause the dryer to run extended time if turned on. It should turn off at the end of cycle. Your dryer has it: Wrinkle Guard is a cycle created to help alleviate wrinkles from setting into clothing. If you are unable to remove a load immediately, press Wrinkle Guard option to add from 30 to 140 minutes of periodic tumbling to help reduce wrinkling.
Do you get any "Error Codes" showing up in the Estimated Time Remaining display window on the control panel? Example: F1 or F40. Manual for your unit does not show how to put it in “diagnostic mode”. This would allow you to see codes that aren’t cleared (fixed). Will search for the Whirlpool matching model number and hopefully it’ll give me more information than what Kenmore has given.
The exhaust the dryer puts out, does it vent to the outside your home from a wall usually behind the dryer down low or does it vent out the roof up high?
I’m not finished!!
