My latest cane. Made this from a vine twisted tree a friend cut down for me on his property. It was stripped of leaves so not positive what species it is. Very hard, light colored wood and fine grain so maybe a hard maple? Sanded the concave parts a LOT to remove the bark and get the weight down and left the inner layer of bark on the spirals. Added a light colored stain and a few coats of poly. Used a brass T coupler to attach the handle. Turned out pretty nice

A coat rack I made for a customer.
Its made out of the pallet the building materials were delivered on.
I made shelves for my wife out of pallets like that, they are on the walls in our living room. She loves them. Only the width of a 2x4 deep, with the front piece sticking up about 2 inches above the "floor...kinda like a planter that goes outside a window for flowers...she puts pictures in frames, a book here and there, knick knacks etc in them...have you seen the little statues at lifeway without faces (Woodbridge?) Ihave bought her several of those, and she puts them in those little shelves also. I found an old pallet that was red oak...hard as a rock...but beautiful...and made her 4 of those shelves about 3 feet wide each. Didn't cost me a dime, only time.
That is cool slice. I have been tryimg to post a pic for half an hour but I can't get it to upload when i go to attach the photo..I am on mobile..but I am always on mobile. I have never been to VN on a desktop. Ever..

It did post...just sideways. Hmmmm...
Anyway, built that for my daughter. Freehanded all the pieces with a jigsaw. Sadly, that mane and tail took me 2 hours, just as long as the carpentry. No fasteners, drilled and doweled everything. Weaved the mane together. Only power tool I ever used was a jigsaw, and a drill for where i used dowels. Everything else was elbow grease.
