Things I'm mad about today

The movers must’ve freaked out because the legos were broken and hid them in my clothes. I know they weren’t just packed in clothes, because I had exploded my suitcase (honestly, it’s 24 years old and didn’t survive the two months of constantly on the go so when I moved my stuff into this new house, it was just sitting the the floor of my closet. It was the least of my unpacking worries). I found legos in the suitcase!!! And around all the other clothes they piled in the floor beside it. I mean what the actual F? The Beetle and Fiat were mostly intact and now fully intact, but the Bus and Rivendell will take some time.

mad at delta. entire trip home yesterday was a big eff you from them.

everything went perfect until after we got through security.

flight was supposed to leave at 10:30am
boarding didn't start until 1pm
absolutely no communication from delta about the delays, just constant 30 minute extensions on when the flight would leave.
after boarding had begun, we were told that no checked bags could be loaded due to a balance issue.
choices were to stay with your bag, they gave a cab and a hotel voucher, or fly out, and have your luggage shipped to you.
with the plane half boarded this caused a big kerfuffle. no one at delta could tell us anything, a why, what happens to our luggage now, if the checked bag was carry on sized, could it just board with us?
boarding lasts until 2, a bunch of people getting off.
they end up moving us around out of the seats we paid more to be in. plane ends up half full, first class stays at the front. pretty much everyone else moved to the back of the plane to balance out the nose. and the seat they moved us to, the TV doesn't work.
we don't take off until 2:30, because Atlanta hadn't given our pilot some number they needed.
meanwhile as we are waiting around my gf is starting to feel sick, and finds out her grandmother is in the hospital, which just ratcheted up the stress a bunch.
finally land in atlanta at 11pm, about 5 hours after we should have.
we dont get off the plane until 11:45, waiting for a spot to open up. the constant theme seemed to be: these people's day is already ruined, why not make them wait some more.
have to go to baggage claim help desk along with 30 or so people from our flight, plus the normal number needing help.
delta says we should get our luggage in a day or two.
we have to find a late night shuttle to get back to my car and drive home. we of course haven't eaten anything real, so we have to stop for food. Delta only gave us the two snacks.
this was a big trip, and without my luggage my girlfriend and I are both down to only 2 pairs of undergarments.
because of the stress, I wasn't able to fall asleep until almost 3am, woke up at 7am to go to work

"What are those, Legos?"
"Yeah, is there a kid somewhere? Didn't see any of their stuff."
"Must be the guy."
"Ha ha ha ha ha, what a goof!"
"You know he's military, right?"

"He looks like he's in pretty good shape..."

OK, let's just get all this chit in the closet and get the hell out. Here, throw those extra ones in the suitcase. C'mon, let's go!"

And you know, it takes so very little to just show some sympathy and share some info and just generally act like a human being. But here's a major corporation that either doesn't know how or can't be bothered to handle a relatively common situation properly.

Yeah that wad the worst part. Ok plane is broken and baggage won't fly. OK just say that and explain it. They started the whole mess by just saying no checked luggage will fly. Took 4 hours to get a decent explanation from the pilot. No one else had a clue or was saying anything.

Don't Ever Leave The Airport
Growing up almost every flight out of Tri Cities Regional went through ATL and Delta… the number of times I sat in Hartsfield Jackson waiting when it would’ve ultimately been quicker to drive all the way far outnumbered the times every flight hit on time

I gotta fly next weekend, it sucks🤣

Not sure how many Tolkien nerds there are here other than myself (maybe @GordonC), but this is what happened after Elrond and Company sailed for Aman and Valinor.

Please pop up another pic of Rivendell when it’s back. That’s one of my imaginary places I go when I need to. Well, the movie version, more than the Lego one, I suppose.

I had no idea the Air Force doesn't want or need college grads. The Marines, Army and Navy want them badly though. Funny how you hear "military enrollment across all branches is down, we need more people", yet you turn away a college grad because of his degree and he didn't have any ROTC experience. Even though he did graduate college in 3 and half years and is going to continue to further his education.

Sorry for the rant, just really disappointed our son was told that by the AF. Then is told he's really wanted by the other branches (he really wanted to go to the AF).

@508mikey you mayud yet?

Is he wanting to go Officer? What branch would he want to be in?

He'll only go in as an officer or he won't go in at all. He really wanted the AF, but two separate recruiters told him they didn't need him. As of now, he's leaning towards the Marines or just continuing to work and start on his Masters degree.

I’m obviously biased being Army, but there are way more options in the Army vs Marines. What was his GPA if you don’t mind me asking? Officers aren’t in anywhere close to as dire need as enlisted are. It’s still not a guarantee in any branch to pass the officer eval boards. Anything under a 3.5 GPA prolly isn’t going to make it. Likely need some other assets (second language, extracurricular college organizations, volunteer hours, etc) as well. I just left the recruiting trail and the last board eval I saw had the most “not selected” I had ever seen.

We had 2 bad moving experiences out of 12.
