Narrow-minded is refusing to listen to any points that someone who disagrees with you is trying to make:

SOS ratings:

Notre Dame = 19
Arkansas = 41
Texas = 47
WVU = 42
Wisconsin = 84!
Rutgers = 50
VaTech = 66
Boise = 100
Auburn = 31
Tennessee = 11

Tell me what I am missing.... how am I an Irish fan for stating the obvious? How am I an Irish fan for disagreeing with the media? I like Brady Quinn. I like a good kid that is smart and plays good ball. He reminds me of Manning. Nothing wrong with that.

1. I think there are at least 20 teams that would have gone through ND's schedule with the same record.2. Manning played well for 4 years. Quinn did it for 2.3. Smith came from a different background. Pretty much every kid that came from the ghetto like he did is going to get in some trouble. I think his story is somewhat uplifting. I'll change my mind if he gets in trouble again, but I don't think he will. As for McFadden, I believe his fight was the result of someone trying to steal his car.
That is a very bad sterotype. All kids from the ghetto do not commit crime. I am offended by that comment as other people should be too.

And we're all basically unanimous in trying to make the point that it is a patently ridiculous premise to argue that Notre Dame is a victim of media bias.

I haven't seen much that disagrees with this assessment - who is saying he's not good? or a good person?

The blog that started it all doesn't even show that. It is all surmised from statements that are tangentally connected at best. If anything, I thought the media was loving BQ all year long. They just loved TS more.

If you remove the two teams to which ND lost, their schedule would be lower than all of those teams, excluding Wisconsin and Boise.

that is not my argument. My argument was that:

1) Brady Quinn has been unfairly bashed all year long (calling a kid overrated who has a 7:1 TD:INT ratio ... good for 5th best ever?)

2) Notre Dame deserves a BCS bowl.

that's it.... that's my argument. it shouldn't even be an argument. there's not much of a dispute.

Are you from a ghetto? Also note that I never said all kids from ghettos commit crime.

I would say there is considerable dispute over point #1 and legitimate dispute over point #2.

Why does Notre Dame deserve a BCS bowl?

Exactly none of the teams they beat is currently ranked. That helps the argument saying that because they aren't in a conference they should go out and schedule 12 mediocre teams, win everyone of there games and then I guess they would deserve a BCS championship birth then correct?

Does it say what type of conditioner Brady Quinn uses on his hair in that article? I only ask because I would like to get John Parker Wilson some for Christmas because that stuff shines. Thanks!

Stewart Mandel of CFN/SI.

Mike Freeman of CBS: "Introducing Brady Quinn. Fine gentleman, future NFL quarterback, and the most outlandishly overrated player in the history of college football...If I ask who the best college quarterback in the nation is right now and you answer Quinn and not Smith, then you are a brainwashed fool."

Jemele Hill of ESPN Page2.

If the media just loved Smith more than they loved Quinn, they would just talk about Smith's excellence (which he has shown time and again on the field this year) and Quinn's excellence as well... but they would highlight Smith's more. Instead, you get "Smith is great, Quinn is overrated" They always counter a Smith complement with a Quinn degradation.

Lou Holtz's constant adoration of all things Irish trumps those guys.

3 names with one quote. Hardly damning evidence that the MEDIA is biased against BQ and ND.

Smith is undefeated.

Football is a team game. Football teams win and lose games. Noone will argue that OSU is leaps and bounds better than Notre Dame. This article isn't about Smith, though.

I gave you three examples. I thought that would be enough. I could pull several articles and columns and blogs that absolutely berrate Quinn that I have read all year. It's one thing to say that Smith is better than Quinn, and in all respects, that's oppinion, and that's fine with me... but you should never bash someone in the process... esp. someone with such class.

And anything Holtz says about ND is trumped by Mark May. That is just for TV ratings.

Mandel is right here though no matter who the quarterback at Notre Dame is they are overrated.

Dave, It's just hard to say the media all of a sudden started bashing ND.

As has been said, the media adores the Dome. Heck, just a little further down in that blog you pointed us to was this...
Only nine games this year drew over 5.0 million viewers. Here's the list.

1. Ohio State-Michigan
2. Notre Dame-Southern Cal
3. Ohio State-Texas
4. Cal-Southern Cal
5. FSU-Miami
6. Notre Dame-Michigan State
7. Notre Dame-Georgia Tech
8. Ohio State-Iowa
9. Notre Dame-Penn State

Notre Dame has real media clout. Even a concerted and openly contrived campaign against a ND heisman candidate, would likely not derail a worhty candidate.
I just don't see the point of the argument.

And I'm leaving any Peyton crap completely out of this.

If I'm still misunderstanding your point, well, I apologize.

Are you from a ghetto? Also note that I never said all kids from ghettos commit crime.
As a matter of fact I am. I grew up in goverment housing in Chattanooga. I was raised by a single mother who worked two jobs so we could just get by. My brother escaped the ghetto by getting a baseball scholarship to Samford University in Alabama. He turned that scholarship into a Law degree and has a successful practice in Jacksonville. While I turned to books, I recieved an academic scholarship to Boston University and later studied at Oxford University in England. Then I received my Ph. D. from Virginia. And even though we "came from the ghetto" we never once got into any kind of trouble. If there is any questions as to the definiton of narrow minded, one needs only to look at your post about kids from the ghetto. And by the way you did say all kids from the ghetto. I joined this board to enjoy talking about football, but when insulting sterotypes are thrown around so carelessly it is time for me to leave. I have enjoyed most of the post and disagreed with a lot, but the fun has now ended for me. Thanks for letting me be part of your board.:salute:

Blogs aren't exactly the strongest outlet for the media. When has the media ever attacked Quinn's character or class? As for Mark May, he doesn't hold a blind allegiance to any player or team. His opinion is much less biased and infinitely more logical than Lou's insane ramblings.
