According to SECN, 52-10 isn’t dominating. wtf?

The performance you just saw was a classic Alabama/Georgia type dominant performance along the lines of scrimmage. Nico and receivers didn't even play that well and we won by 40+ points against a ranked opponent.

The best stat for measuring a dominant team isn't actually scoring margin (which can be susceptible to turnovers) but rather yardage differential. Our yardage differential thru 2 games has to be one of the best in the country. We're not just winning games by a lot of points. We're literally not allowing our opponent to move the ball while moving the ball at will with our offense.

We can play with anyone in the country. We look like a national championship caliber team.
lets keep the eye on the schedule. So far so good. Build towards the away game in Norman. The sooners have not look unbeatable. that may change at home against a former championship QB, representing another team. We will ge their best shot.

This is Heupel’s 4th year and I think this is his most complete team for sure. Our defensive line is 🔝 5 at worst in the country. That’s a great starting point.

Nico will get better. The picks were unfortunate but no QB is perfect and playing that position is all about how you bounce back.

As of two games, we’ve been a 🔝 7 best team in the country, but it’s early. Gotta keep stacking ☝️ at a time
I wanted to throw one little tidbit out there. Since Peyton is our measuring stick for QB greatness, here is something to look at. In Peyton's freshman year he threw for 1100+ yards with 11 tds and 6 into. His career turned out pretty well. This was a new defensive scheme and they played 3 deep almost thr entire game. The 2nd int was on the Oline not Nico anyway. No way a DE should have been able to split a double team by our right guard and tackle. We also had a TD taken away by a very questionable lineman downfield call.

Thr article I saw written at 12:29 AM called it a rout, so there is that.

The 2024 Vols have shown that they will continue to hone their game as the season progresses. They will be better prepared to face OK, B***, and Georgia when the time comes.

Undefeated until they ain’t. GBO.

I think the secondary is just inexperienced. The talent is there. McCoy, Gibson, and Carter are NFL caliber DBs. I also like Jakobe Thomas at safety. Could see him becoming a factor as the season progresses. Also don't forget how much better tan awesome pass rush makes a secondary look.

With regard to Nico and the receivers, I just think they need time to gel. When they get it going I expect them to be better than Hendon and the crew in 2022.

Who was #3? He didn't get a lot of praise but man I saw that guy make some great tackles and he was all over the field.

I could care less if we are in the top ten right now. Let's just keep improving and winning and that crap will sort itself out.

Pump the breaks here. We looked good at times but also not “championship caliber” at times. We just need to improve each week and get them dubs and whatever happens happens.

A lot of tough games ahead, some on the road too. I just hope we make the playoffs

We looked solid on defense but not sure we are at a level where we can beat OU, UGA and Bama yet. We'll find out a lot against OU in a couple of weeks.

And I believe we will need to win one, maybe two of those games to make the playoffs.

Three SEC teams have separated themselves from the pack so far:

Georgia, Texas, and Tennessee

As dominant as Tennessee looked today, Texas and Georgia have far more impressive wins and Georgia has been Heupel's kryptonite so far. We will see.

Verdict is still out on Ole Miss (hasn't played anyone yet), Missouri (same as Ole Miss), and Alabama (struggled with USF but chance to shine next week @ Wisconsin).
LSU, OU, Auburn, and Texas A&M haven't looked good and UF and UK have looked down right terrible.
Your point is well taken but how is UGA's win over Clemson in Atlanta ,"far," more impressive than our beating NC State in Charlotte? Especially considering State beat Clemson 24-17 last year.

We've kicked the crap out of one glorified HS team and another that struggled at times against W Carolina. Now in fairness to the OP contextually it's correct to say an elite team should look like that against weak competition. In reality it's pretty meaningless until it translates to wins against quality opponents.

After the trip to Norman we're still feeling this high? At that point we'll have a real conversation.

Of course I watched the game but you need to realize our pass game defense is far from perfect and when we play Bama and Georgia there’s a lot of loose ends that need to be tighten up. If you think our defense is perfect you’ll have a rude wake up call come the time we play in Athens
No one is freaking perfect it's damn CFB. You think Bama is perfect or UGA ? They ain't. Both are beatable. Will that happen IDK but. . . I am watching with my eyes. We can beat Bama. Nit sure about UGA. Playoffs is the goal.

I agree with everything, but it's nice to win a game like that ..... when I don't feel like we played very well, and yet, I was never worried about losing. This would have been a dog fight under Butch or Pruitt. The Georgia State games are a thing of the past now.

My win for last night was coaching. The first drive on O and D weren’t great for UT. However, the ability to adjust that fast is what top teams do. I don’t know how we’ll match up against the top SEC teams, but I’m confident that we now have the depth and players to run wide open, grind and run, or keep a heavy package in all game and still hurt them. Thats hard for other teams to defend against. Our D line is so deep — they stay fresh. There’s a lot of potential here. A lot.

A lot of fundamentals witnessed last night that were old trademarks of this team, but have reappeared in a CJH coach team.
Down Field Blocking --- Back to the old days.
LOS scrimmage play both sides.
Defensive Tackling more as a unit and played assignment football.
Depth and rotation.
The staff and players are organized on the sideline and everybody is locked into the game.
The first drive that resulted in a score was a business drive and established a tone for the rest of the game.

What do your eyes tell you? Sure we haven't done this before but the same could have been said for Kirby Smart and Georgia before 2017. I just think we pass the eye test. We look like a dominant team. And the fact we haven't yet proved it by winning a championship doesn't mean we aren't on that level at this very moment.
My eyes told me NC State played a terrible game and is lacking in depth and talent. Until my eyes see something spectacular against top tier opponents, My eyes tell me there is a lot to clean up, if we want to be a Georgia and Alabama.

I of course hope you are right! This was a win we definitely needed, but I pretty much felt it should go this way.

You could be right, but I just can’t get into comparisons with Alabama and Georgia at this point.

Yep. This is a legit team. Following through with easily dispatching lesser opponents is something to look for in a really good team. All that's left after that is winning the big ones as well.

Our front 7 is elite. Secondary is still not great. Nico isn’t a Heisman level QB. Those pass catchers failed to get consistent separation against a mid level ACC defense. Also to be fair we haven’t played a team with a good offense yet.

Just stop already.

You could be right about NC State being garbage. However, only great teams make bad teams look this bad. That was my point. We handled a subpar opponent the way a great team does. Totally dominate them along the lines of scrimmage beating them into submission even with our offense not hitting on all cylinders.

I mean, I know it’s D4H, but he would appear to be correct in this case.

Saying we look the part of a playoff team, that the DL is elite, that Nico barely scratched the surface of what he might become, and that we were badly overlooked in preseason rankings are all perfectly reasonable observations after two weeks. But talking national champion level at this point is a bit premature, and classic D4H hyperbole.

The great things are the depth we finally have across the defense, meaning no falling apart from fatigue late in big games, and the run/pass and offense/defense balance of this group. We no longer need superhuman QB play or to put up silly offensive numbers to win big games, and can actually lean on our defense and grind out wins if necessary.

There is a lot to work on and improve from last night, such as the penalties, which is a good thing. Nico knows he has things to clean up about his performance. This is a young group in key areas (QB, secondary) that should only improve as the season wears on. Enjoy the ride, but let's save the natty talk until we beat Georgia in Athens.

Personally, I think the Weirdos are those who don't see this team as championship caliber. This DEFENSE is the real deal and will improve with every Snap. And what more could you ask an Offense to do? Clean up the Penalties. The legs should be Trembling in Norman. The Orange is Back and it's coming for U.
