Clausen was 34-10 as a starter over four years and 33-7 during the regular season. The three bowl games losses the rest of the team checked out and didn’t give their all for Tennessee that day. Divide that by four years and I can’t wait to see the fuzzy math that equates that to 4-5 losses each year.
Clausen was a hell of a lot better than Ainge. You don't know what you're talking about
Name another QB who won in Tuscaloosa twice, and Gainesville twice. You might want to read through the thread more thoroughly before posting. That you don't know you've already been served up on a silver platter is telling. You're allowing your overly impetuous, triggering reflex to guide youThe Vols lost 4 games in 2000 and 5 games in 2002.
I guess the NFL didn’t know what you’re talking about either since the two Clausens were the only Multi-year starting QB’s to not get drafted during Fulmer’s head coaching career. But I get it. You remember Val Kilmer and the most talented defense Tennessee ever had in 2001 and think Clausen must be right up there with Peyton Manning and Heath Shuler.
Not because of Clausen. He was 6-0 as regular season starter in 2000. He didn’t play in two of the three losses and only played one series in Georgia loss (where he threw a TD pass and officials incorrectly ruled catch as out of bounds). In 2002 he didn’t play in the Georgia loss because he hurt his arm the week before. This was his famous “I would beat them with one arm tied behind my back” quote. The Vols lost 4 games in 2000 and 5 games in 2002.
You are right Joe wasn't even at the top of the list on why we lost this one.Is it not possible to just say that we lost? Do we have to crucify an individual every damn time we lose a game?
It gets old and tired.
We lost, PERIOD.
The coaching sucked in the 2nd half, the players sucked in the 2nd half, the officiating sucked in the 2nd half and the outcome sucked! Total team suckage!
Yes we failed to score, but we also gave up what, 27 straight!! We should bench the middle linebacker for that debacle...
He's not ready...Not even close to ready...CJH wants him to keep learning and take over next season...You put him in now and he gets seriously hurt and can't practice with the team who will take over for him next season?..Something to think about...Joe isn't playing bad contrary to what some people think, He's doing what he is told to do.But is it better to see that this year or next year when Nicco will be our only option ? If you wait until next year do we go thru a lesser year next year because Nicco is learning or getting his first real experience. I don't think Joe is doing anything special this year that you hope Nicco could not come in and do for a quarter or two this year in all of the remaining games. Not looking for greatness necessarily. Just looking for something on film to work with him on.
Clausen didn't start in 2000 until the Bama game and went 6-1.The Vols lost 4 games in 2000 and 5 games in 2002.

Injuries are a part of the game and nobody can predict them. When Jerry Colquitt finally got his chance to start at UT ,he was injured and lost for the season in the first game of the year. Worrying about injury is not a reason not to play him, just a fan excuse. You have no idea if he is ready or not so that's speculation. Joe is not awful but he is a liability in this offense and the coaches do not trust him in all situations based entirely on his play. It limits their play calling ability. If they need is the QB to hand off and throw balls sideways, I'm not sure anybody could tell a fan that Nicco can't do that. He's not ready...Not even close to ready...CJH wants him to keep learning and take over next season...You put him in now and he gets seriously hurt and can't practice with the team who will take over for him next season?..Something to think about...Joe isn't playing bad contrary to what some people think, He's doing what he is told to do.
Casey was a lot better than Ainge lol. Not even debatable. The Vols lost 4 games in 2000 and 5 games in 2002.

Huh ?Then why did Ainge get drafted to the Jets while Casey didn’t get drafted? I understand that a large number of UT fans think differently on the matter, but there are more than a few who would agree with me.
To me, Casey as QB marks the turning point in our program where TN was no longer a top 2 SEC program. He’s Clemson’s version of DJ Uiagalelei
I wouldn't say Ainge was a better QB. Clausen was 14-1 in road games. He was cery close to playing for a national title and giving a very good michigan team the worst beating in a long time. Both were solid qbs. However i have to give the nod to Casey due to the road recordThen why did Ainge get drafted to the Jets while Casey didn’t get drafted? There are always variables. I would argue that Ainge had better wr's than Clausen. Sure we had some defensive studs but so did Ainge. No team is ever the same. I base my entire argument that Clausen played his best on the road. Something Ainge didnt show. Thus the nickname the Ice Man.That’s the difference in surrounding talent, including defense. Ainge came along after Saban, Meyer, Carrol, Richt, Coker, and Stoops started taking all the best talent. Clausen took over right after we won a title. TN was in the mix of one of the top 5 programs in Clausen’s first 2 years.
Numbers don’t lie, but there’s more to data than one or two variables also. For example, Ainge had a good year in 2007 - the year that Cutcliff came back.
Have to agree he doesn't see the field. doesn't read defenses well and slow going through progressions. Cost him a fumble and 7 points for the eflants. But who we got that's ready to replace him? Add one of the most limited WR corps we've had in decades and I'm surprised we've won as many as we have. I'm thinking 8-4 would be a good finish for these guys, considering all that.If you can’t see Milton’s limitations, then you aren’t paying attention. Guy just cannot see the field in real time.

I actually like the argument but I don't think Casey was responsible for us sliding a tier or two. Think it was more on the staff and not getting the best out of the players. That’s the difference in surrounding talent, including defense. Casey was kinda slow, however he was tough. I remember the overtime game at Bama. He got the sh1t beat out of him that night and walked off the field victorious. Only time I ever went to Bama and I have to say it would be hard to beat that nightFair. I remember Rick beating LSU. He said something about Casey along the lines of “I could never run that slow”.
