Those calling for an upset in Orgeon

I think after we are 3-0 with a huge upset of OR we will be ranked #19 and the talk of college football for on the field play and not just recruiting.

I'm willing to bet that would be the 1st time a 19th ranked team was the talk of college football.

Lots of reasons. One, we hear a lot about how the SEC is the ONLY football conference in the country and everyone else is just a bunch of weak sorry conferences. The Pathetic-12 Conference, the Big Slow Conference etc. You guys whether you want it or not have a target on your backs. Two, you guys will be looking for revenge after the game in Knoxville. Three, when you're ranked in the top 10 EVERYONE brings there best game. Four, Oregon lives by "Win The Day".

I could probably go on, but lets just say if you guys beat us, it won't be because we took you lightly, you'll earn it.

Please tell me what in this schedule gives the impression that your schedule and your conference is even close to the SEC. There is no comparison at all to UT schedule. If you had to play UT's schedule you wouldn't make a bowl game. YOU PLAY IN A CANDY ASS CONFERENCE PERIOD!!!:spank:

Sat, Aug 31 Nicholls State Eugene, Ore.
Sat, Sep 07 Virginia Charlottesville, Va.
Sat, Sep 14 Tennessee Eugene, Ore.
Sat, Sep 28 California * Eugene, Ore.
Sat, Oct 05 Colorado * Boulder, Colo.
Sat, Oct 12 Washington * Seattle, Wash.
Sat, Oct 19 Washington State * Eugene, Ore.
Sat, Oct 26 UCLA * Eugene, Ore.
Thu, Nov 07 Stanford * Stanford, Calif.
Sat, Nov 16 Utah * Eugene, Ore.
Sat, Nov 23 Arizona * Tucson, Ariz.
Fri, Nov 29 Oregon State * Eugene, Ore.

Wait...there are other conferences? :)

UT was at least ranked in the top 10 in the country going into that game...This UT team isn't ranked in the top 10 of the SEC! That's why.

Keep crying....

You are the new "fade route of the Dooley days."

But, fade had an excuse to be like that.

What's your excuse?

I do think it'll be closer than some think, because Butch is pretty much prepping the team FOR this game in practice. Fast paced, loud, non-stop.

We will reciprocate that pace, but Oregon just has more talent and depth.

It's gonna be a loss, but it's a game that has peaked my interest.

It will be a tough game. But to say Oregon has more talent is an overstatement. They have consistency within their program for many years. They run the same plays out of different sets. They execute the plays cause their isn't anything exotic about it. This causes them to play above their skill level. LSU and Stanford and pretty much anyone else that can be physical and has discipline can beat Oregon. Run it down their throat's. I don't expect any combination of our QB's to beat them. I do expect our O-line and RB's to do it. If the defense uses discipline. Front seven staying in their rush lanes and containing the edges. We will be fine. Also who knows what kind of influence Chip Kelly had on his team.

Cute, but neither was the 85 Vols at the beginning of the year.

In 84 we went 7-4-1 and lost to Kentucky. At the beginning of 85 our offense had only Tony Robinson and Tim McGee, but no RB and had lost the bulk of experience on the line ( Raleigh McKenzie and Bill Mayo). Defense had also lost its core strength (Carl Zander, Alvin Toles, and Reggie McKenzie) and both our Kicker (Fuad Reveiz) and punter (Jimmy Colquitt). We started the year unranked and were facing the #10, #1, #7 and #15 teams in 4 of our first 5 games.

No one thought we would do any better than the 84 team. We were ecstatic when we beat Auburn, but it was a mixed blessing since Tony Robinson went out with a career ending knee injury. After the tie with Georgia Tech, most of us thought the season was over. Somehow Daryl Dickey and the boys won out and whipped Miami, but at this same time in 1984 you would have been hard pressed to find one person who thought the 85 season would go the way it did.

Good post. I agree but it was the bammer's that broke Tony.

Stinky bammers.

Forget the game. Can someone point me to the Orgeon mentioned in the diary title? Now that sounds like a fun place!:birgits_giggle:

No crying here. The guy made a comparison to the '85 Vols. Which team would you rather go into Oregon with, the '85 team that played against Miami or this year's squad?

I agree with your above post but that's not what you said...you specifically referenced the Miami game, not the beginning of the year.

I think UT will go out there and play pretty well. They may not win, but I'd be shocked if they didn't put forth a valiant effort.

If UT is in this game and happens to win, it won't be because Oregon has a new coach or overlooked UT. It will be because UT was prepared. It's that simple.

If we win this game you'll see me burning shiny, metallic, annoying, multicolored, throwback, throwforward, duckcovered, nike sponsored, ladylike mattresses in Eugene.

We can go out there and play hard and still lose like 49-14 though.

Maybe, but I think UT will play well...not just hard.

That was the problem with UT the past few years. They were in a lot of games at halftime only to get hammered in the 2nd half.

Hopefully, those 2nd half woes are over.
