The guy's a Hell of a talent, but it's readily apparent that when the stakes are high, he disappears. I think there are a couple of reasons for this. First, he seems to just have a passive personality. Second, and most importantly in my opinion, Pearl's babying him his entire career has kept him from ever getting mentally tough. It would certainly have been interesting to see Hopson play for a coach that actually requires him to cut hard, defend hard, and not mope around every time something doesn't go his way.

So, to conclude this, I really don't blame Hopson for the crybaby stuff and the propensity to disappear when the stakes are high, I blame the staff.

Shocking.

Can't stand watching when he gets in his childish grumpy moods.

I'm still confused. It was one bad game. Granted, it was the SEC Tourney, but other than Tobias, the rest of the team sucked. I would understand the bad attitude.

Seems as if you are from the "fire Pearl" faction. Of course, Pearl was brilliant the last 5 years by winning more conference games then anyone else in the SEC but this year he and is staff are a bunch of bafoons.Oh yeah, he took the Vols to the first ever elite 8 too, I forgot. What a ridiculous accomplishment.

I think it's actually ok to blame the staff on this issue. He's been allowed to have that same attitude all four years.

I agree to an extent. Pearl was chewing out Hopson's ass and then he went on a tear in SEC play. He sucked it up both last night and the night before, and Pearl benched him. He probably could've done it sooner in his career, but if I'm not mistaken he brought him off the bench last year instead of starting him because of his play. When things don't go Hopson's way, he is going to pout. The problem is moreso us not having anyone that can beat out a pouting Hopson rather than the coaching staff. If we had some people on the bench that could produce, we wouldn't have to wonder why Bruce keeps Hopson in the game.

Yeah it's hard to perform every single night when the you're getting (almost literally) no offensive help from your team aside from Tobias. Still, it would be nice to see Pearl absolutely blast Hopson while he's coming off the court one of these days...

The "everyone else sucked" argument just fails in my opinion. Minus Harris, Hopson takes about as many shots as everyone else combined. And, it's not just one game. They had a shot to have an incredibly easy draw straight into the championship game by beating the worst road team in the conference. So, once again, the stakes were high: Hopson: 2-10 from the floor. That's just him.

He did have 19 pts last night....the 7 turnovers very costly though, especially the ones in the first half that got us behind early.

Scotty has been immature from day one, but he has progressed a little bit in that area. In years passed, when he had a miserable first half like he did last night he would have went completely in the tank. Instead, he came out and went right back to his shot early in the second and got back on rhythm. He was 6 for 6 from the line and kept us at least remotely in it.

The staff deserves some blame for him not being mentally tough, but a lot of it falls on the player. He came to UT with that sense of entitlement so its probably been rooted in him for a long time now. Being on an NBA roster will be very humbling for him.

He had 19 points and about 6 or 8 of them were scored when the game was essentially already decided.

There have been 4 or 5 times when he had a bad 1st half shooting, or wasn't getting calls, and came back strong in the second half. I know his body language looks bad. But I honestly think that's just how he is. I don't think it's pouting.

he also had a pathetic second foul called on him with 430 left in the first half and had to sit while we made our run (whether that was a blessing in disguise, I don't know)

He clearly mopes around when things aren't going his way. But what bothers me the most is the lackadaisical cutting on offense and the lack of effort he shows on the defensive end when things aren't going great for him. Again, I don't blame him for that; it's the staff's job to make clear that playing half-ass isn't an option.

So we're trashing Hopson again? Business as usual for this place.

Even though I don't think Hopson played well last night, he still scored 17 of his 19 pts "when the stakes were high" in the 2nd half.

The kid had a great season and for the majority of the year carried this team on his shoulders. Give the kid the credit he deserves. These threads are played and ridiculous.

Try reading, genius. I clearly state I blame your buddies for Hopson's lack of mental toughness. But don't worry, lard ass will get to redeem himself at Craphole Community College real soon.

It is an option when he's your best player and you depend on him for half of your offensive production and when he knows it.

So...we are going to have a thread on Tatum, Goins, Golden, & McBee, right?

But who are you going to put in? You have to admit the staff made it a point to sit him the last two days moreso then they have this entire year because of the attitude, especially the first half and the beginning of the 2nd half Thursday.

I think where the coaches have failed is where they haven't got anyone on the bench that can beat out a pouting Hopson. McBee and Bone can play good at times, but the attention Hopson demands on the court opens up things for Tobias so who are you going to put in there for him. That's where the coaches have failed in my opinion. When SEC play started last year up until this year, Bruce has been more vocal about Hopson than he had the first year and a half. We just have to deal with the fact this is who Hopson is, and he knows he can't be benched for a long time because Bone, McBee, and Tatum aren't Scotty Hopson.

You shouldn't call our alma mater craphole community college, because cbp isn't going anywhere.

I have never seen the effort be pathetic for Tatum, Goins, Golden, and McBee. At least when they suck it up they hustle while doing it.

And if you can't see the difference between why there is a thread on Scotty Hopson over those 4 players, then just go back to bed.

Every single person you just named play significantly harder than Hopson. That's probably because half-assing it isn't an option for those guys, as it is for Hopson.
