Thoughts on Kentucky

Kyle Wiltjer is terrible!!!! How do UK fans not see this if he is playing against an athletic guy he will be destroyed

Not terrible, he'd be fine on numerous other teams, he's just not a typical Calipari 4 man. He's not athletic and he can't play defense.

When you can shoot about 50% from three at his size, you're a valuable asset. Kentucky just has to figure out how to get him open and how to hide him on defense.

I thought Poythress played a really nice game - was great on the glass - very aggressive and showed the ability to shoot from outside

he is raw on his offensive moves but he has a LOT of talent

I didn't see this. He got most of his production from offensive rebounds and put backs.

he definitely got most of his on put backs and dunks and that is certainly where he is most effective - i thought he hit only 1 3 and had another long jumper, but article below says he hit 2 3's- either way i thought he showed the ability to have nice touch on his outside shot

Yea cause that always translates...

Some guys are just good practice players...if you're expecting harrow to be better than Teague you're in for a disappointment IMO

Unfortunatley i agree. No doubt he'll be better by seasons end but Teague was better in nearly every aspect of the game. I think strength had a lot to do with Teague's success and it'll be Harrows achilles heel

no doubt they need Harrow - but its not like he has a knee injury - he just has the flu for Christ's sake

Harrow had trouble staying on the court at NC State, seems like he just has some bad luck...wouldn't be surprised to see him miss multiple games this year.

well I hope he can get right - hate to see kids not get to play b/c of injuries - also want a shot at beating them w/no excuses!

Teague also was terrible at the start of the year - he was a really good player in the tourney

but he was a weak link first half of the year - also his laziness on the last play cost them the IU game - but outside of that he just wasnt very good for a large portion of that year

There's a reason harrow transferred instead of going pro after NC State...he just wasn't that good.

Oh I'm with ya, I want them at full stength for both games we play them this year...i do like our advantage in the post, especially after watching Plumlee work over Noel.

I love how you're always so combative when you disagree with someone.

My point was that for the majority of last season, Teague was the weak link for UK. He picked up his play in February and peaked at the right time. To say Harrow is a "huge dropoff" is inaccurate at this point in the season, because people have seen him play one game for UK.People saying that with any sort of conviction are just voicing an opinion based on one game. That doesn't mean they won't be correct 5 months from now, but right now, its pure conjecture. Who is to say Harrow doesn't have a late season awakening akin to Teague last season? I just think its a little early to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Calipari isn't in the business of taking players that "aren't that good". He doesn't have to take chances. If he didn't think he could play and run his offense, I doubt he takes him. JMO

Did Calipari count on Lamb and Teague coming back this year? The roster seems to be constructed that way.

Cal should know better than to depend on talent staying here. Lamb and Teague were both questionable stay-or-go players, but the fact that they won a championship definitely played a factor. It's the reason Jones stayed around for a second year when he could have gone lotto.

Noel has got to stop jumping early and to stop denying the post and giving up easy buckets

if he does that against our guys down low they will have a field day with him

if he starts playing smarter, though, that length could bother both stokes and maybin - not saying they wont score on him, but could certainly be a factor

The lack of true perimeter players makes me think he thought at least one of Lamb/Teague was coming back. Harrow, Goodwin, and Mays are the only true perimeter players. Can Harrow shoot the ball well?

Hell no. He went 12-54 from three in his freshman season at NC State. His strengths are his athleticism, quickness, and ball handling ability.

According to Calipari, his shooting has improved since the transfer, and he's a slightly better shooter than Teague.

As Gators said though, his % at NCSU was abysmal, mostly due to shot selection.

His biggest issue is going to be leadership. He is not very vocal and Cal wants and needs that from his PG.
