Thoughts on Kentucky

Teague also was terrible at the start of the year - he was a really good player in the tourney

but he was a weak link first half of the year - also his laziness on the last play cost them the IU game - but outside of that he just wasnt very good for a large portion of that year
Yep, if he would of hit those 2 free throws that would of sealed the game.

Because he needed a backup PG. :)

While at UK, he has never had a true backup PG. Lamb was the backup last two years and Liggins the year before.

Edit: MC's post reminded me that Bledsoe also assumed some backup duties in Cal's first season to spell Wall.

Cal's yet to have a bust at UK. He and his staff know how to scout players. There's a reason he took Harrow and we'll see why in Feb:thumbsup:

Darnell Dodson and Jon Hood both say hello. Are you even a real Kentucky fan?

EDIT: Stacey Poole also send his regards.

Harrow is serviceable for Cal, but I doubt that Cal every accepted him as a tranfer intending for him to be "the guy" at PG. I feel like something didn't quite shake out on the recruiting trail this season, or maybe he thought Teague was staying.

He's no Wall, Knight or even Teague or Bledsoe.

I love how you're always so combative when you disagree with someone.

My point was that for the majority of last season, Teague was the weak link for UK. He picked up his play in February and peaked at the right time. To say Harrow is a "huge dropoff" is inaccurate at this point in the season, because people have seen him play one game for UK.People saying that with any sort of conviction are just voicing an opinion based on one game. That doesn't mean they won't be correct 5 months from now, but right now, its pure conjecture. Who is to say Harrow doesn't have a late season awakening akin to Teague last season? I just think its a little early to throw the baby out with the bath water.

It was mor sarcasm than combativeness...sorry you took it that way...it was more laughing at it because Tennessee has had its share of guys who were great "practice" players, and it never translated.

As for harrow and Teague...I watched harrow at Nc State, a lot...not sure if you did or didn't. Harrow found a nice seat on the bench pretty often for te majority of games...I dont recall Teague doing that.

Harrow is a redshirt sophomore, Teague was a true freshman...harrow got to practice an entire season in Cals system against a NBA PG before he played his first game...he shouldn't have the same growing pains as Teague, nowhere near the same situation.

Calipari isn't in the business of taking players that "aren't that good". He doesn't have to take chances. If he didn't think he could play and run his offense, I doubt he takes him. JMO

Calipari took him because he was highly rated in his class and calipari had missed on other PGs in the class and wasn't in good shape with other PGs...so he went ahead and took harrow. If you look at harrows numbers at NC State he's not exactly a Cal PG.

Noel has got to stop jumping early and to stop denying the post and giving up easy buckets

if he does that against our guys down low they will have a field day with him

if he starts playing smarter, though, that length could bother both stokes and maybin - not saying they wont score on him, but could certainly be a factor

I've said that about Noel for probably 6-8 months now...Davis was great at not leaving his feet, Noel got in foul trouble in the Jordan Game because he kept flying off the floor...

That head fake he bit on from curry last night was comical, even curry was laughing all the way back down the court...I also dont remember Davis getting pushed around like Noel was last night by plumlee.

He is tall and long, and very athletic, so if he figures it out hell be very good defensively...I just see too many question marks right now.

Cal had missed on some PGs and didn't lead for any, and this past class wasn't deep at PG...he planned ahead and took harrow...there's no question he isn't a Cal PG, and wasn't a guy Cal would've pursued out of high school.

What growing pains has he shown? We've seen him play one freaking game. And comparing his freshman year at NCSU to Teague's at UK is apples and oranges. Teague benefitted from playing with 5+ other future NBA players in an offense designed to highlight the PG. Harrow didn't. I'll say it again, and for the last time, 5 months from now we may all look and agree that Harrow was a mighty failure at UK. Claiming it as a certainty after one game is just putting the cart before the horse.

Your one step away from saying jarrod polson was a bust. None of which were MD all Americans...I was talking more about these highly touted recruits btw

True, but he didn't pull his offer either, so its on his watch. You can bet he'd take credit if he were a 1st rd pick too.

From a PR standpoint Cal couldn't really afford to pull his scholarship. He was mr basketball, cal didnt fully have the trust of the fan base and overall it would have just been a shotty thing to do.

Poole and Hood never got the chances to play. Both were 4 star recruits but were overshadowed. Dodson had his own issues, wasn't he also dismissed from Southern Miss?

I wouldn't categorize them as busts.

Stacey Poole Sr. was his son's downfall at UK. If daddy would only learn to shut up and let Cal work....

Hood got spot moments his sophomore year. Cal has proven that if you work your tail off, you will get minutes. Jarrod Polson has filled that role in the last few games, although I don't see him being the long term answer.

Dodson had attitude problems.

Dodson had lifestyle problems.

Fyp. And hood was out last year rehabbing an ACL tear. It's not like cal was just not playing him

You don't come in on your first year and pull the scholly of a local player, he is smarter than that. He didn't have to with the class he was bringing it, smart political move.

Sure you can. Bruce Pearl did it within his first week on the job (Matthew Dotson); a much maligned and criticized move at the time. A 22-8 record and a #2 seed less than a year later, and no one remembered Matthew Dotson. Pearl would go on to become the most beloved coach in 30+ years. Winning gives short memories to fans.

I understand your logic, but these are two coaches and two programs whose situations are not comparable. Completely different.
