Tidbits on The Coaching Search and Pearl Leaving

What is your list, out of interest? I like hearing the thoughts of people who follow NCAA hoops more broadly than I do.

Frank would make my pants tighter. Marshall, Turgeon, and Grant are up there. Mooney is on my next set. Wouldn't mind a guy like Cronin. Blaine Taylor is good. Realistically, I am in the Marshall camp though

Sounds like about where I am. At least for the first five. Once you get past them, I don't know what I think. Definitely hoping for a (positive) shocker or. . . well. . .a Shocker.

It seems like a weak pool altogether. Best case scenario is Frank stabilizes things for 3-4 years then gets an NBA job. Worst case scenario seems to be Marshall, which isn't too bad but hardly a sure thing.

The Marshall angle will be interesting to watch, especially since there are some rumblings in Columbia that Horn might be out.

USC will throw the house at Gregg.

I hope that's the worst case scenario. I'll be nervous until things are official though.

Gratitude. It was the right thing to do after what Pearl did for the program.

BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!

That's friggin' rich.

That scratch probably paid for a waiver of a wrongful termination claim, if by some miracle the NCAA does not come down on Bruce with a Show Cause.

$ is for covering arse when it comes to termination; gratitude's got nothing to do with it.

Gamecock. Went to Gamecock football games and was a big supporter even while at Winthrop. (Winthrop has no football team, mind you).

What have you heard about Horn? I would think Marshall is their guy and I agree they would pay for him. They should have hired him before Horn

Why hasnt a bigger school already hired Marshall? Serious question. He seems to be pretty consistently successful.

He has lost four basketball players in the last two days if you count Ellington, who some in Columbia speculate he will only play football at this point.

Lost Galloway, Spinella, perhaps Leonard and Jackson, too. It's a fire sale.

I said it in another thread, but the profile of the Big South was so low, it took him a long time to get the recognition he deserved. Even winning a NCAA tournament game didn't propel him into a BCS-league job.

He had plenty of interviews but never got the jobs. It seems weird that Wichita State was the biggest he could get.

Hell, it took 7 years after their first head coaching gigs for Self and Wright to get hired to major conferences. Marshall has a few more years under his belt, but mid-majors are also paying more than they were paying a while back. There isn't as much incentive to make a move.

He seems awfully willing to move now and he took the Wichita state job. I don't buy that.

He could just be horrible in interviews, or there could be a lot of idiot ADs. However, a lot of the jobs that have come calling weren't exactly big time gigs. UT is getting there, so I gotta think they can pry him away.
