Tim Banks defense...

We're 2nd in the conference in yards per play, and gave up 3.1 today. We came in at 4th in the conference in scoring defense, and are 3rd after today. And we've got major upside in years to come. Not sure there's anything that can be called "the problem".

Aggies stopped themselves several time on offense today, qb falls down on 4th down, trips over his tackle on third down, dropped passes with wide open receivers, Tennessee gave up several third and longs today to a middle of the road SEC offense, the debacle in Gainesville could very easily be repeated in Tuscaloosa, we shall see
We won the game due to big time effort from all three phases. Just a great team win.

Amen to this. Who among us would not trade our secondary right now for Texas A&M’s secondary?

I agree that Martinez should find another employer for us to finally field an SEC-quality secondary. I’m done with him.
Apparently you haven't seen the scoreboard. Jesus.

I hear ya but I think a lot of that was also the offense’s inability to produce. I hate to keep revisiting this game but missing Cooper and Mincey was huge. How many drives did we start behind the sticks. The problem with Heupel’s offense is that if it doesn’t produce the defense doesn’t get much of a breather.

I’ll never criticize him again if he gets the D to carry us to a victory on the road against Bama. I promise you that lol

You never know. We haven’t been very good on the road the last two years but I think it’s fair to say that Neyland is a feared environment again so that’s good. I imagine the foundation may shake when UGA comes to town.

You are either delusional, drunk, both, or Willie.

Either way. We will never truly compete with the way our DB's are taught. Like it or not chief.

Line = A

DB = D-

Martinez gotta go
Thought the DBs played well also. Did you see McDonald lay out for that tip near the end of the game?

Agree they have been pretty bad, but not a bad effort today at all.

And yes, I realize the DL helped them out a bunch, but you can turn that argument around for past performances also.

No. You don't get to do that. You don't get to sit there and think ATM is going to be a close game all week like we all have and then when we win and cover day they were horrible. No.

I just did. If you truly believe the defense made A&M look like garbage, you’re kidding yourselves. If we had lost this game or scrimmage or whatever that was played today, you’d be calling for Banks to be ran out of Tennessee. I guess you’re going to say that our offensive woes were due to their defense. Puhleeeeeese. All day all we heard was Milton sucks, Milton can’t throw, run more… which is more accurate of the reason we can’t really move the ball. A&M’s QB sucked, period. Had nothing to do with our defense. 🤣 Wtf…

I'm really happy with our defense under Banks. We got better all last year (albeit with a couple of games that were really poor performances) despite having some depth issues and some pretty big gaps that had to be planned around all season. After the debacle of the South Carolina game the coaches managed to get things back on track where in past years bad times would've led to worse. Then the defensive staff recruited well and our have put together a really good defense this year, even by SEC standards. If we keep this trajectory I'm not sure what I would complain about.

I wish we could have paired this D with last year's O.
Agreed, but if we gotta take a step back in one place and a step forward in another, I'm glad our D got better and the O is what is more of a work in progress. I dunno if we will get it to where we need to win each week this year, but I have a ton of faith in our staff righting the offense long term. As long as Heupel and co. are here I suspect we will keep drawing in really good talent who want to work with them.

They're going to need portal help on D before next fall.

I will admit, the Florida game was pretty upsetting, but that's always the case when we lose to the lizards, especially when we aren't supposed to. Was hoping it would be a while before having to experience that again, but: plenty of games to look forward to still.
