I mean, Alabama is Tuscaloosa is always going to be challenging. Obviously I want our guys to put their best effort forth, and they should expect to go out and compete and win, but if a Saban coached team with the amount of talent that they have somehow ends up giving us a bad day (as in, not just beating us, but making the defense look bad, as you suggest), it will hurt for sure, but I wouldn't write the season off.OP, wait till about 6:30 P.M. next Saturday night and see how this holds up.
Fair enough lol, it'll be a tough game. I'm not going to pretend I've never complained about banks in the past. Last years defense really let us down. I just think it's ridiculous to call for his firing over one drive with their body of performance this year. The defense has really stepped up. They have allowed more than 20 points only once so far this year (florida) and 7 of those came off an extremely bad interception and short field.OP, wait till about 6:30 P.M. next Saturday night and see how this holds up.
I really think he's done a good job, personally. There could be some debate about Martinez, but I'm not sure it's as clear cut as people think. He's coached and recruited a bunch of guys and replacing him will have some effect on a team (Edit to clarify: by team I mean specifically coaching staff here) that has been pretty cohesive, which has some advantages. I've never played the position and I don't doubt the criticisms people have made about technique and such, but just saying even if that needs to be taught better, simply replacing him will have some side effects that have to be considered.Fair enough lol, it'll be a tough game. Line = A
DB = D-
Martinez gotta go
C/ATT | AVG | YDS | TD | INT | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
M. Johnson, QB | 16/34 | 6.6 | 223 | 0 | 2 |
Apparently you haven't seen the scoreboard. Jesus.
Those last two games are against Bama.. and us. Their season worst offensive performance against us in that context could be worse for us. We aren't exactly in bush league company, even if Bama is a bit down.Tamu 2023 season Game-points scored to-date:
52, 33, 47, 27, 34, 20 and (wait for it) ......... 13.
...carried us today along with special teams. Can some of you stop calling for him to be fired after an opponent has one good drive?
He was horrible.
C/ATT AVG YDS TD INT M. Johnson, QB 16/34 6.6 223 0 2
There QB completed under 50% of his passes. He averaged 6.6 yards per attempt. He had ZERO TD passes. and 2 interceptions. And you give the DB a D-.
Why do have Coach in your name?
Look at almost every DB at every school. Travis Hunter, #1 recruit, best DB in the nation, didn't turn his head and got a ball caught off his helmet for a TD. It's easy to say it, obviously much harder to do it. Pros are the same way. It's rare to see DB's consistently turn their head. It's the special ones that can. Most, an overwhelming majority, don't.You are either delusional, drunk, both, or Willie.
Either way. We will never truly compete with the way our DB's are taught. Like it or not chief.
Defense definitely won the game today and Banks deserves most of the credit. Great to see that improvement for sure. HOWEVER, that does not mean we will just immediately forget/dismiss 2nd quarter of Florida game or SCjr game last year as not significant. Those are not couple of drives why people have been calling for him to be fired - Banks' defense literally cost us playoff spot last year and UF loss this year is also mostly on him. Let's see how the D holds up next couple of weeks on the road in big SEC games where we have had most of the issues. If they perform as well as they have played at home last couple of games that should shut everyone up calling for Banks and/or Martinez to be fired. I personally need to see that to be convinced that we have really turned the corner.
I agree. I'll put a large majority of that game being closer than it should in coaches lap. He kicks a couple FG when he should've, and we're up by 10 and coasting at the end -not necessarily needing Hadden's pick at the end. Points were a premium -needed to kickInteresting how all the bad losses are on Banks, but if offense plays bad, it's on the players, not coach Heupel or the other offensive coaches. Sounds a bit like person bias to me. Imho!

Offense playing bad is definitely on Heupel and offensive staff because they seem to be sticking with Milton no matter how poorly he is playing. No doubt about that being on Heupel and I find it ridiculous that in every press conference when asked about Milton he says it's all 11 guys and staff that are responsible. There is some truth to that but yesterday it was mostly Milton who dragged the offense down again and at some point Heupel is throwing the rest of the team and coaching stuff under the buss to keep protecting one guy. Perhaps he is doing that because in spite of all the obvious issues Milton can run/participate in running game much more efficiently than Nico at this point and running game is working perfectly right now. By the way there are plenty of threads where people are complaining about QB situation so not sure why you think they are not being called out.Interesting how all the bad losses are on Banks, but if offense plays bad, it's on the players, not coach Heupel or the other offensive coaches.
