You are joking, right? What is with you people wanting this trouble-making, player paying coach who is about to get hammered by the NCAA?
I don't know much about him but he has a lot of value to sell to recruits. 9 yrs in NFL coaching. Number 3 on Ohio st all time rush list behind George who he groomed and Archie griffin. Also had Maurice Clarret set the nation on fire as a freshman. Groomed Matt forte. Coached Michael bush this year as well. I'm sure I'm missing some names
Maybe I am off here but don't quite understand this guy being an option. Exactly why would he leave an NFL job where he has been for 10 years to take a step down to coaching the same position in college? 10 years in the NFL, he has to make ALOT more than we would offer him. What am I missing here?
it is not simply trying to fit some "minority" bill, and it is not a diversity play for diversity sake.
people can claim (and rightfully so) that this is the 21st century, and color shouldn't matter. because it is the 21st century, and color absolutely should Not matter.
however, that simply is not reality, even in the 21st century.
it is easy to say - i dont care. blue, green, black, white... i want the "best", "most qualified", "dedicated", etc etc... A honestly, thats the way it should be
but fact is, even in the 21st century, if you want to recruit young black men from the South to skill positions at your university, then you are going to need black men in coaching positions that can go in to the neighborhoods and living rooms where those young black men and their families reside.
its just a fact of life, still, even in the 21st century..
I saw that someone else posted that he is currently unemployed, but also important to remember that we were willing to pay $300k to retain Graham, so we have some money to work with. I have no clue what he was making at Chicago, but I can't imagine it was more than 250k. He will probably want some title besides just running backs coach, though.
you find issue with mothers and fathers of young black men having a desire for their sons to attend a school with at least a couple of successful black men on staff to serve as role models for their child?
wow so it sounds the like blacks are the racist ones. hmm
you don't see color. how sweet, and utterly cliche
One thing that is good about Spencer is being a running back/coaching running backs is all he has ever done. First he was one in college and pros and then he coached them both college and pro. No one year as a WR coach, DB or LB coach, always been running backs and nothing but running backs.
Kinda what I was thinking...NFL dudes make bank.

so do SEC and other big-time college football coaches. There may be a difference, but I don't think it will be that great. $300,000 for a RB coach sounds pretty high. You seem to be implying that this would be the low-mark in the NFL, and I find that hard to believe.
Of course OP does not. Just as Mothers and Fathers of young white men have a desire fortheir children to attend a school with at least a couple of successful White men on staff to serve as role models for their children. Like say ... Grambling.
The lesson here is ...... race doesn't play a role in any career situation anymore, unless we make it an issue.
What would happen if someone founded an ALL white school in let's say any state in the country ???
Many would react very negatively .... not right either way.
The world moved on.....catch up. It's a non-issue for most people.
