Trooper Taylor burned a bunch of bridges on his way out of K'ville and comes with NCAA baggage that UT doesn't need. He might get the job. Every position group he coached at UT got better iirc. He was an ace recruiter even before the funny business at Auburn. He was the best recruiter on Fulmer's staff by a good margin. I just don't see him getting a job at UT due to the two factors I mentioned.

it is not simply trying to fit some "minority" bill, and it is not a diversity play for diversity sake.

people can claim (and rightfully so) that this is the 21st century, and color shouldn't matter. because it is the 21st century, and color absolutely should Not matter.

however, that simply is not reality, even in the 21st century.

it is easy to say - i dont care. blue, green, black, white... i want the "best", "most qualified", "dedicated", etc etc... A honestly, thats the way it should be

but fact is, even in the 21st century, if you want to recruit young black men from the South to skill positions at your university, then you are going to need black men in coaching positions that can go in to the neighborhoods and living rooms where those young black men and their families reside.

its just a fact of life, still, even in the 21st century..

What century is it again?

I would make Spencer the #1 priority and put the full court press on him. Don't take no for an answer. Dude has a great resume, and he has stayed at his last two jobs for quite some time. That's a good sign.

You took the bait and failed miserably. You can't tell me whites are profiled at the same rate as blacks. You blame people in black ghettos. So I ask you...how come whites are not targeted or profiled at the same rate as a result of "trailer trash" people?

Black people bring more attention to themselves by acting immature and obnoxious. Both of those things are promoted by the culture they are raised in. Hicks are targeted just as much as black people in society. Smart hicks don't get noticed just like a smart black person wouldn't get noticed. You are using a cop out by blaming everybody else for one race's issues. Why do you think Asians don't get targeted? It's because they don't do stupid stuff or making bad choices.

People like you feel entitled to blame others for your own mistakes. The numbers say blacks commit the most crime, and that's why you're targeted! Not because of a never ending grudge that shouldn't even be in this damn thread.
If you don't want to be stereotyped, then break the stereotype instead of acting like a sissy with no honor. We are vols, we are better than this stupid childs play. A volunteer always had honor. Both white and black men from this great state have volunteered. I know what being a vol means. Do you?

Couldn't ask for more in credentials. I love both George and Forte. Let's get Spencer!

And he seems happy to be "just" a running backs coach.
That is the only job he has had and he has only only had 2 coaching jobs.
Ohio State 10 years
Chicago Bears 9 years
And he was a running back in the NFL for 6 years and 3 years in the USFL.
Running back is all he knows and wants to know.

So all these positive posts means Spencer can recruit RB's, specifically from the south? Even though he hasn't recruited a single player anywhere in 9 years? Will do a better job than Graham, who coached Marcus Lattimore, has 4 years SEC specific coaching experience, played at UT in the SEC, and also played 6 years in the league?

Rub a little pixie dust on anybody Butch hires and they are the best or better than the last guy. Right? Whatever.

I don't think anyone is claiming Spencer would be a better recruiter. It's been a while since he was a college coach so that remains to be seen.

As far as pure coaching ability/track record, however, I don't think calling him an upgrade would be completely unjustified.

LOL. You might look cool to others on here, but you just made claims and accusations directed straight towards me that couldn't be further from the truth. But it's all good.

I'm sorry about that. I hear black people ***** about that, and pent up anger comes out.

I think Graham was an excellent coach but Marcus Lattimore has IT and would make any RB coach look like a genius. Bad example.

spencer interviewed today, sorry this is a big downgrade from graham. just doesn't make much sense to me.

How is a former NFL RB coach who was partially responsible for resurrecting Thomas Jones career and who also coached Eddie George at OSU a big downgrade from a coach who couldn't recruit a four or five star RB?

19 years of coaching experience and 8-9 years as a pro.

on top of coaching multiple high profile rbs such as Eddie George, Matt Forte, resurrecting Thomas Jones career, im sure theres some good rbs im missing too. On top of the fact he was at one job 10 years and the other 9. Looks like hes pretty loyal, and must have done a good job to be retained.

Funny how some feel Gruden would of been the best recruiter in the world though he had not coached in years and not been in collage for decades. But Spencer doesn't have a chance to work out.

Definitely not a downgrade in any shape or form. From a coaching standpoint its an upgrade in experience and results.
