it is not simply trying to fit some "minority" bill, and it is not a diversity play for diversity sake.
people can claim (and rightfully so) that this is the 21st century, and color shouldn't matter. because it is the 21st century, and color absolutely should Not matter.
however, that simply is not reality, even in the 21st century.
it is easy to say - i dont care. blue, green, black, white... i want the "best", "most qualified", "dedicated", etc etc... A honestly, thats the way it should be
but fact is, even in the 21st century, if you want to recruit young black men from the South to skill positions at your university, then you are going to need black men in coaching positions that can go in to the neighborhoods and living rooms where those young black men and their families reside.
its just a fact of life, still, even in the 21st century..
Why do they require a successful black man to look up to? Michael Jordan was my hero when I was growing up and I learned from his story about hard work. I'm white. I don't see color. I see character. Why do they see color?
They see it because it's slammed into their face day in and day out. Via commercials, movies, even just walking down the street minding their own business. You can get stopped and detained for being Black and driving a really nice car. You don't live these people's lives where they're made acutely aware of their color daily. Even famous Black people face it. A few publicly but most private say they're fame an success nothwithstanding, at the end of the day they're still just a ni***er in the eyes of White America. Now you claim to not see color. Then one must ask why you're being so defensive about it if that's true. I for one don't believe you. Not until you're born into and live the Black Experience.
That's just an excuse, everybody gets profiled on one way or another. If African Americans stopped acting like idiots in the ghettos, then they wouldnt get profiled by policemen. The black leaders like Jackson and Sharpton are teaching hate nowadays, what do you expect?
The same could be said for white trailer trash. No?
If we do hire Spencer, that can probably be seen as an upgrade from a pure coaching standpoint. Dude has coached up multiple running backs for much longer than Graham and even the lesser backs have been productive.
Recruiting on the other hand would be a bit of an unknown. Sure, he could try to sell his experience with NFL backs and whatnot, but it's been a while since he has recruited so who knows.
All things considered, I think Spencer might be our safest bet in bringing in a quality RB coach on such short notice.

Anyway...back to the topic. Looks like Des Kitchings would be a good hire as well. The new NC State coach saw fit to keep him around.
Observations from the 50-yard Line: N.C. State to retain 'Des' Kitchings as RB coach
Also coached under Steve Martin at Vanderbilt.

With that many years in the NFL, how long will he stay.
That's my point. You cannot use something like race for an excuse of why stereotypes exist. If you look at the black and white trash communities, nobody is telling them to act the way they do. We all need to clean up our backyards. It's not a race problem, its an idiot problem.
I like the idea of tim spencer...coached a heisman winner... developed matt forte into the back he is...thomas jones was succesful under him as well...i'm not worried about his recruiting...once recruits talk to him i'm sure they will be like wow plus he knows many NFL contacts and knows what NFL people are looking for win win situation
