Nothing, it's a common phrase.

are you serious? they would be screaming racism to the highest mountain. every news outlet would be carrying it for weeks. it would be played over and over. i agree it is a common phrase but they would be besides themselves.

First McCain said the exact same thing about Hillary's health care plan and it had absolutely nothing to do with Sarah Palin. It's a pretty standard saying that has been around long before Obama said it. I could see the point if it had never been said and Obama made it up.

Apples and Oranges. McCain wasn't talking about a person he was talking about a policy.

I disagree.

And.....Obama was not talking about a person either.

Right. So the Harvard grad had no clue that people wouldn't know that he was blatantly talking about the person who's speech highlight that was played over and over again was a lipstick joke?

Face it. Obama is a deer caught in the headlights and his true colors are shining through.

I disagree.

if any republican politician said a phrase like that would be tarred and featherd. if the phrase "Call a spade a spade" was used and it had anything to do with a black democrat/lib, you would have people screaming, demanding apologies.

you're barking up the wrong tree here in trying to turn nothing into something.

Why do you care so much about it? Do you feel that point needs to be driven home to help your team win?

Look at the flap over the "Jesse Jackson won South Carolina" comment from Billy Clinton - the Obama campaign jumped all over that as evidence of racism from the first black president!

Why would Clinton bring that up and that's not close to being an everyday common phrase that a lot of people use. I don't go around saying "Jesse Jackson won South Carolina" :)

Just like my VN Lefties donÂ’t buy this crap from the NY Governor. Right?

"Paterson sees the repeated use of the words "community organizer" as Republican code for "black". "

wcbstv.com - McCain Campaign Fumes Over Paterson's Racism Claim

Or Democrat Randi Rhodes:

hey lawgaytor, if palin said the phrase, "pot calling the kettle black" what would obama's people and the democrats be saying now?

No, those would be absurd, as is the fake controversy over lipstick.

oh... How we all have been duped. How many of us when they first saw it thought this was a bad move on Obama's part? I get the feeling they had the tape of McCain saying it about Hillary just sitting out on the coffee table.

Obama knew what he was doing and its a risky gamble, like Palin.

It's absurd to assume that it was an unintentional comment, just throwing an adage around.

It wasn't that at all, but is, in the end, a non-issue. Obama probably lost more than he ever thought he might gain by saying it. Just looks petty.

Depends, he may be trying to see if the media will start to backlash on McCain/Palin, which may be the case.

I totally agree. He knew exactly what he was doing. He was trying to walk right up to the line without crossing it, but it seems like an unnecessary gamble.

I think that what everyone is forgetting here... Is that Sarah Palin is hot. Calling her a pig is ridiculous.... Hilary on the other hand... :dunno:

It would only work if the media jumped on it like they did the original quote. It looks like it may be paying off, every network I've seen is talking about it and it puts the spotlight back on Obama and off Palin. Heck, Huckabee has come out and defending it.
