Time for a good old fashioned GOP hissyfit

The media is starting to turn on McCain per an article in the Wash Post.

Howard Kurtz - The Anger Factor - washingtonpost.com

This could be a turning point as well - more scrutiny on McCain than Obama

Funny to see Kurtz acknowledge something that's been a staple of the national press corps for the past 20 years --pure idiocy. I do give him credit for calling out McCain's campaign (as well as his media colleagues) for creating and spreading such BS, but that's what these guys (the press) have been doing for years.

Honestly, I blame the "mainstream media" as much as I blame Bush for our current situation in Iraq. If they had had an ounce of curiosity or basic professionalism, then maybe the American people would've been better informed about the real cost of going into Iraq. It's not like their weren't competing ideas in the marketplace, it's just that nobody would air them.

There's lots of blame to go around, but the failure of the establishment press is a huge part of the story that has shaped where our nation is today. Most people (especially press people) simply won't acknowledge it.

One of the great ironies of the press is how strongly the cling to their duty to expose the truth yet when they are questioned about their own methods they refuse any objective evaluation - they are truly the one institution that is above investigation.

Yeah, we also know how good the media is about reporting relevant material to the situation as well.

The media used Iraq to slam Bush. If things have not improved there, they would be all over it. Especially since McCain supported the surge and Obama did not.

They would be all over it but the media isn't good at predicting events, only about reporting them after the fact.

Reactive vs. Proactive

I'd take reporting the today status if they can manage that. My guess is they have no interest since the today status is much improved.

yeah, CNN can't get any Al Jazeera provided footage of Al Quaeda snipers gunning down US troops, so why report when US troops are rebuilding schools?

It only seems to be improved, there is serious reason to be concerned over actions that are currently developing.

Or maybe you aren't concerned I guess it depends on your idea of what is acceptable?

I see, so when things were going crappy day to day, the media was busy telling us how things were going to improve?

Again, if they could make a point of this coming danger you speak of, they would.

That's the media for you. What can I say, its all about ratings. On the flip side no news equals good news right?

They would, if they had the competence to do it. I'm telling you they don't. All they know how to do is react to big headliners, one will be coming and they will react to it as well, telling us how no one saw it coming and its because of failed policy or whatever... months or years later someone will actually do some investigating and discover the problem was known before hand and investigations will start.....

Sure, its not classified. It just requires some research, thoughtful analysis and knowing thy enemy. Its not one big thing so much as it is multiple small things that are growing into a concern. One example is the segregation of neighborhoods in Iraq. As before the war these neighborhoods of Sunni, Shia, Kurds, Agnostics, etc were basically intertwined and they lived side by side (albeit not always peacefully). within the last two years there has been mass population movements into enclaves. Whole neighborhoods are being walled in to keep the others out. Its so bad now that there are reports (Intel, military) that no neighborhoods exist anymore that consist of the three major parties. Prevailing wisdom would show that the population is using this period of time (the surge) to position themselves for what will become once the US leaves.

There's a lot more to this but I would have to write a thesis to explain it all. The end game is there is going to be one mother of a civil war brewing.

that's why we won't be leaving soon and certainly not before the Iraqi military can drop the hammer on two of the sects at any one time.
