'26 TN ATH Shavar Young (Clemson Commit)

Will we continue to push for Shavar?

Clemson is so unsavory. I can’t imagine letting my kid play for Dabo.

Side note, who was the commit we got a cycle or two ago who put on the Florida hat and then went “Nah” and pulled out a UT hat? Lol we ate that crap up then.

Edit: It was none other than Jordan Ross.

I think saying “WE” ate that crap up is a broad generalization. I don’t doubt that some did eat it up, but I’m sure others rolled their eyes at it.

Are you sure the Staff didn’t even slightly take offense to that video?

Certainly they wouldn’t comment but I bet they weren’t happy with the way the kid handled it..
Mostly they don’t care on something like this. I thought it was immature, didn’t care for it but this never stops a staff from pursuing a kid that they want. Usually if we drop contact it’s for something more substantial like we had a kid a few years ago steal from a player while on a visit at another program or you have a family member/handler asking for something out of bounds.

If this kid is high on our board we’ll continue dialogue and push here. If not we’ll move on to the next option.

Man, if I'm a kid with any other equal or better choices, I'm telling Clemson, "I dare you to cut me loose.", if they openly threatened that. I just can't believe that tactic worked for as long and with as many kids as it did.
It's not called a cult for nothing.

Sure, they would cut him. LOL.

The kid goes to Webb, which is only about a 20 minute drive away from the UT campus .... Unless he posted pictures of it on social media, how would they even know if he did visit?

That is such a stupid bluff that Clemson does, and it seems pretty hollow in this case.

A lot of things work when you're contending for titles. Ask Michigan

It doesn’t make sense to do it to the hometown team that you know most of your teammates cheer for. After already ditching those teammates once. Plus the hometown team didn’t shun you.

You know Dabo put him up to it because he’s salty AF right now that Huepel is whipping his ass. So when Dabo finally convinces a fringe prospect to drink his KoolAid he wants to rub it in.

It would be weird if Ross lived in Gainesville and did that to UF and still had to live there and play with his teammates for two more years.

TBH, Dabo has been so hypocritical in the landscape of College Football, it wouldn’t surprise me if he pressured the kid into dissing his hometown school for his own amusement.

He’s good at playing the “nice guy” act but most of us know he’s a fraud if there ever was one.

He didn’t do anything bad tho? It’s not like he stomped on the hat and said F Tennessee while looking at the camera

Two things to think about ....

1) 5 Star Class of 2026 QB Faizon Brandon, from NC, was announcing the next day .... He never considered Clemson. Everyone knew it would be Tennessee. Tennessee also appears to be the front runner for David Sanders Jr. from NC. Clemson did not make the cut to his final four choices last month. Clemson recruited Sanders hard and was in on him almost as early as Tennessee was.

2) Shavar Young is also a Class of 2026 prospect. Now, I'm not saying that it's unusual for players to announce a commitment this far out .... but is it just a coincidence that Young (who currently lives in Knoxville) announced the night before Brandon did, and while Tennessee appears to be on such a hot streak with players from NC? And he threw shade at Tennessee during his announcement to boot? Everyone can make up their own mind, I guess .... I think it's at least possible that someone affiliated with Clemson suggested the idea of committing the night before Brandon did to Young, while also doing the "Tennessee fake out" routine as a middle finger gesture. Though, probably not Dabo.

Threw shade? 🤣

It’s a conspiracy involving Clemson’s staff now. I didn’t realize.

I’m sure when Jordan Ross did the hat switch it was a coordinated effort headed by Ekeler and Tim Banks… 🙄 to throw shade at UF.

Nobody on our staff is that petty and I highly doubt anyone on theirs is. All the petty is right here spinning tales where Tennessee is a "victim" of a vast shade throwing conspiracy.

I didn't say it was someone on Clemson's staff. I said "someone affiliated with Clemson." I even made a point of saying that it probably wasn't Dabo.

Call it throwing shade or describe it however you like. Young's actions were disrespectful in nature. However, I have repeatedly said that it wasn't a big deal, or a reflection of his character or of his upbringing. There is nothing wrong with being critical of him, for actions which he recorded and posted to the internet, however .....

And my exact words were only that "it was at least possible." Not that it actually is what happened.

No what's dumb is grown ass men criticizing a young man on how he makes his college decision.
Obviously, not everyone sees it that way.

I believe that it is fair to criticize him for the way he acted in that video. Is it a big deal? No.

Does it reflect poorly on his character or upbringing? No.

Would I be just as critical of someone who acted the same way and chose Tennessee? Yes, I would.

It is dumb to be disrespectful towards people who have taken the time to recruit you ... offered you a scholarship, money, and shown an interest in helping you achieve future career goals.

He is responsible for his actions .... and for those actions being placed on public display. If you don't want your actions to be judged, don't post videos of those same actions on the internet.

He wasn’t disrespectful to the coaching staff tho. That’s why your entire point is silly. If you don’t like the way he announced…cool. But he did not disrespect the staff.

I believe that it was disrespectful to Tennessee - and the staff is a part of that.

Is it a big deal? Not at all.

.... and I don't think that the University of Tennessee staff holds those types of actions against players; nor should they. I'm sure they will continue to recruit him hard, and they should. There is a lot of time between now and the early signing period in December 2025.

You’re in your feelings too much if you think it was disrespectful imo. Taking a hat and shirt off to reveal a different team is not disrespectful in any way

No, this has nothing to do with feelings. As I have repeatedly asserted, I would also be critical of a recruit who acted similarly while announcing Tennessee as his choice.

We will just have to agree to disagree on that. I think it is a disrespectful way to conduct oneself.
